Default Post up your HID pics (intrested in PnP results) [56k get something to eat]

Ok so i know that the truth is that with PnP HID's (rebased bulbs w/shields) in halogen housings aren't as great as a true projector retofit. I just want to see what the results of using H4 (or any) HID's with the shields looks like. I could reto my HID's into my halo projectors but i like the stock looking headlight x10. I plan on using my EG OEM headlights with the halo projectors non-fluted glass and running some shields

These shields are the one's i want to see the results from

The headlights that i want to use

If i'm not mistaken aren't 1st gen Escaldes (and other early applications of HID's) using a reflector type housing with HID's and I haven't seen a cut off pic but wouldn't it have to be the same as projectors.

Exactly what i'm trying to avoid

What HID's should look like (STI)

So basically what I'm looking for are pics of HID's in halogen housings with shields and preferably non fluted lenses. or if you don't fit into this category then feel free to ***** out your retrofit pics. Also if anyone has pics of the cutoff from stock vehicle with HID's that don't use projectors that would be cool to see and compare.

thanks for looking

I imagine the non fluted glass, and the shields will help your cutoff line a little with a PnP kit and Halogen housings, but your not gonna get that sharp cutoff line (shown in the STI picture from HIDplanet) without doing a retro fit and using HID optics.

It seems like you already know that it won't be as good as a properly done retro or OEM HID setup, but with the shields you should eliminate some of the stereotypical glare from a PnP kit in a halogen housing.

Good luck.

I would still reccomend going the retro route myself.

Retro < Lazy (in all honesty i don't want to put halos back on my car)

I know it won't be like the projectors i just am trying to gauge how bad the output.

in to see pictures...so far I've never seen any good pics of the cutoff, folks always just post pics of the color coming out of thier headlights, or a pic of the light on an empty road(like the one above w/ the ef or whatever), never a good pic of the cutoff against a wall. I'm in the same boat as you, i want to retrofit, but i want to keep the stock lights.

Here's an old pic of my G35 when i first put in my 8000K HID'S! (Second Car) You can see what a difference they made compared to a Stock G35 4300K HID(Last Car) And the first car is my homeboy's RX-8 with 6000K I believe.

WiCked_Limitz, that the stock 4300k is much better?
Vintech, i believe that's a hid projector retrofited hid. or a bmw e46. jdm GGB only had the projectors. the usdm all had reflectors.

4300k is what's considered the 'happy medium' between actual lumen output, and color.

That's why most OEM HID's are 4300k.

On the subject.... Here's my E46 bixenon retrofit with stock 4300k bulbs.

Cutoff, low-beam.

Color. (I'm the car behind the blue RSX)

Back story (why i am choosing this route, using PnP instead of retrofiting)

It all started when I was at work one day at a body shop and this 3 series BMW
comes in with a light front hit. the headlight housings were cracked but the
lights still turned on. So i began the teardown and found out that these lights
were like Mits Evo lights (I work at a Mits dealership) where all the HID
components are built onto the headlight housing. So I asked my Manager if the
new lights we were getting came with the HID components. He said he didn't
know, but they costs $900 so i said of course they did but he didn't want to
take my word on it. I was leaving for a two week vacation in two days, this is
before the new headlights came in. So I put the lights in a box on my table and
put a rag over them and only told my boss where they were, and said if you don't
need anything off them I'll take them and don't throw it out. When I came back
the car was gone and I was able to keep the headlights. I noticed something was
wrong when i picked them up and the boot covering the bulb access was off them.
I look closer and the piece that holds the bulb in place was broken on one of
them. (keep in mind they were fine so to speak before i left) I pulled out the
bulb and the metal shaft that runs to the top of the bulb was cracked. I pulled
out the other bulb and it was bent at the base. Later I was told that one of the
mech techs was looking at them and playing around, He is a hack and is younger
than me(23) and is into Saab's my guess is that he was trying to take the bulbs
so he could have some spares, but instead of going easy he broke the retainers and the bulbs.

If you're going to do HID, please do it right with OEM HID projectors, instead of blinding people with mad HID reflector glare. Even with shields it will look crappy.

As for that G35/RX-8 pic above, you were below the cutoff when you took that pic. 8000K will be nowhere NEAR as bright as 4300K.

4300K > all other HID

OEM HID projectors > all other HID setups.

I despise all those gay purple/blue aftermarket HID setups. I would like to poop on all of them.
