I just don't get it. I bought my 90 crx si with a B16a swap already done. When I bought the car I had never driven anything with a B16. I had only my old d15b crx to compare it to. So I thought it was fine. But after driving in some of my friends cars and losing races that I really shouldn't be loosing I'm really starting to think that I'm loosing a lot of power somewhere. I: had it compression tested and it was 210 all the way across. Does anyone have any ideas where I could be loosing power?
IDK.....I may get flamed but a B16 in a SI is not gonna be that fast. I have a 1990 Si and I can tell you we have one of the heaviest CRXs made. Mine with my SC'd ITR engine weighs 2300lbs without driver!!
One thing you could check is your tranny, it may be a long gear non vtec model.
Also, 1st gen b16's have crappy cams in them, get some aftermarket ones, it'll wake up that eninge more than you think.

yeah the power to weight is a big deal , however not meaning to flame you but how are your skills as a driver , and do u really know what to expect out of your engine ,was it raced or driven hard before you bought it ? there are alot of things that could contribute to this
What type of cars are you racing other swapped civics or are you going out racing the biggest and baddest you see because you have the b16 give example of what you have lost to that wont tell alot but it will help
there are alot of plug motors out there. take for example this eg hatch witha lsvtec that i raced. i only got a ls in my car so that ls vtec should have killed me. i beat it by like 3 cars and he didnt misshift
first we need to know what kind of cars yu are loosing to
second you do know that stock b16 are very week and are still slow in a 2300pound crx
i mean a b16 in a crx si can probably barely hit 1's with a good driver
dont expect it too pull like crazy or anything

I met guys with heavier model CRX Si's that had B16s and couldn't break 14s. On stock tires they'd be runing 15.5s-15.0s
With my lighter model 88 crx dx with d16y7/y8 I pulled mid 14s and I ripped on B16 crx's all day long.
Do some free stuff before you start doing cams and ****. Do some weight reduction. Clean your engine bay out a little. Is the exhaust stock? You might wanna let it breath a little more. Get these things done and you should be happy. I'd love to have a stock B16 crx to rip around. No torque though

ive heard the same problem out of a lot of b16's people saying that there too hyped up makeing them sound good but really a cheeper lsvtec is faster, but then reasearching some more i found that there are a lot of long term problems with lsvtecs so im now investing my funds into a k swap
. just my 2 cents.

kseries> everything else.
If I ever went Bseries it's either gonna be a GSR or hypeR motor NA, or a Ls boosted. B16s are cool for the weekend ride or DD. Not worth dumping a **** load of money into them IMO when you can pull similar times with a D.
ps. not trying to start a d vs. b argument
just my two cents.

b16 is highly overated...i would take a turbo d over it anyday. Maybe its a mindset of the driver seeing that you are racing in all maybe the engine isn't in a state to be abused.

15.5 in a y8/a6 full weight 91 Si with a 2.3 60'.
Hoping to run 14.99 with it this year with a few small changes.

Dropping a 1/2 sec is going to take a bit more than just small changes.

Um... i could drop 2 tenths easily just by learning how to drive and getting a decent 60'.
Don't worry about it though, what i consider small changes isn't the same as other people haha. My car went from 16.2 -> 15.5 in between visits to the track last year only changing a couple things.
