run the car for a long time before the test ...and rev it while driving do that for an hour on the freeway ... drive it hard ...

it shold increase your chances of passing ... also make sure you dont let the car sit off for more than 15 min before the test ....

good luck .. o yeah and search there was a topic on this exact thing yesterday .

there is this fuel cleaner system thing at autozone..CHEVERON TECHRON thingy....pour that into your fuel tank...and if u read it ...it says that it lowers your emissions too...did it to my integra and it pass with flying colors.....also dont forget the tune-up.

basic tune-up, run the car at least 30 minutes prior to ur test, dont let it rest for too long, go to autozone and buy those fuel cleaner thingies that will decrease ur emissions and make ur car perform better. that's all i can think of for now

Here's my typical smog ritual:
seafoam(follow the directions and there will be no problems...some people pour the entire bottle into an empty crankcase and wonder why there motor blew up or otherwise got FUBARd )
lowest octane your car will run on
tune-up(plugs, wire, cap and rotor)
fresh oil change(I did mine the morning of the test)
drive it hard for at least 30min before the test, and leave it idiling while your waiting for the test to happen

had to do about 5-6 smogs doing this EVERY time before smog...passed everytime except once when my cheap highflow cat went bad(litterally, chunks of the honeycomb where flying out the tailpipe)

never tried the garanteed to pass stuff, but I've heard that works too.

first of all, if your car is completely stock and in correct running order, you shouldnt have any problems.

also something really quick to check, make sure when you turn your key to the 2nd spot (i believe), that your check engine light goes on, and then when you start the car it goes off. I had to pay a damn extra 20 bucks because the guy failed me for a burnt out check engine light bulb. passed the emissions part, just that damn bulb.

it's like 8 bucks, any pepboys, kragen, auto zone, napa, etc. should have it. Just be sure to follow the directions:
-1/3 in tank with fuel already in it(must go through entire tank and refill with just fuel before the test because seafoam gets rid of all the crap as you drive)
-1/3 in crankcase(oil cap hole)before oil change...(add to old oil), let idle for 5 min. or so
POINT THE EXHAUST TO AN OPEN AIR AREA AND HAVE A FAN POINTING THE SAME WAY JUST BEFORE THE EXHAUST FOR THIS STEP(trust me)
-1/3 through brake booster vaccum line while idiling(idle will get pretty high(3-4K, because the vaccum line is unhooked...I diodn't know this and it scared the **** out of me)...don't worry about all the puffs of smoke...it's the carbon getting out of your motor
-change the oil and plugs at least.
