Default Backfire

I just had my engine cleaned. The only thing my mechanic covered was the air filter. Anyways, after my engine was washed he dryed it up and I took it out. It ran ok but the next day the car started to backfire. I knew it might've had something to do with the engine cleaning so thought it would go away. The next day it's still the same and worse. Now the engine light is on. I checked my spark plugs and there's now water in there. I haven't checked the distributor yet. My friend told me it's probably that because it wasn't covered and to leave the car on for awhile to let the water evaporate. Any other ideas what could be wrong. I never had this problem till the engine got cleaned. Thanks.

Dont drive it anymore! Water in cylinders = BAD.

You probably got water in your ignition system.. I will let it idle for a good 10 minutes and keep the revs up... I do that everytime after an engine wash. The moisture should evaporate.
