Default Anyone with any info on re-registering my car that was stolen? Totalled and bought back..

Like title says I had my eg stolen recently and was lucky enough to get the car back with not to much missing. Car is fine body wise just missing minor apperance stuff, was missing steering wheel but its been replaced, and ecu. Just need an ecu and fix ignition and its good to drive. Just wondering if anyones delt with re regestering a car that was stolen and bought back after being totalled? Am I gonna need to get my car re smogged?.Inspected? whats the deal? Plus i have a d16z6 in my ride but am getting ready to throw it out for a B series. Now if i have to smog it this is gonna cause problems because i wasnt planning on getting it running again with the D16. but i can get the d16 smogged no prob if i have to even though its not the orig. motor. But if i swap im screwed. Anyone who's delt with this in cali id like to year your experience. thanks!

I'm not from cali. but where i'm from if a car is totalled, that's it. There's no more title to register with. How did you buy it back if it was yours but stolen.

insurence totaled it and gave him the value of the car. then he bought it back to restore.

As far as I know, you have to build the car back to working condition and get it smogged and safetied. Then they'll issue you a "rebuilt" title.

Yea they paid me off and i bought it back for really cheap. Has anyone delt with getting a car inspected for rebuilt title. Like Does everything gotta be put back to stock? Are they gonna talk **** about my aftermarket wheel with no airbag? that type of stuff?

My friend did this with his BMW 330. He bought it wrecked for cheap and him and his dad fixed it (dad owns a salvage yard). He said that everything had to be in working order. I don't think it has to be stock but all the saftey equipment had to work (turn signals, headlights brake lights etc. etc. ). I would just go down to the DMV and ask them what you have to do. Once you finish the car you take it they inspect it and issue a salvage/rebuilt title.

I think you may be in trouble with the steering wheel not having an airbag. Its illegal in most states to remove the airbag but again you would have to ask them that question. My quess would be you have to have an airbag at least to pass inspection.

they will give you crap about the airbag thing. With no airbag the srs light will be on, and they wont pass it with that on. The car doesnt have to be completely stock, but as said before all the basic safety features must be there and working and the car must pass smog.

Yea i hope they dont screw me about the aftermarket wheel. My srs light isnt on because i had aftermarket wheel before it was stolen. Will they hassle me about having a d16z6? I can get it smogged no prob. acutally took my car to get bar'd last smog but the guy didnt even make me bar it because it wasnt a b series. Jus ran as if it was a 1.5. Going to dmv tomorrow..

If you have the paperwork showing it passed smog, they wont even look to see if its a stock motor, least they shouldnt.

i just bought my car back after being totaled from an accident. i'm in cali. dmv made me re-do the title to salvage. they made me complete a brake and light inspection and that's it. they didn't make me resmog the car. i just smogged it in nov. they'll give you a new title which will be salvaged and theyll give you new plates.
