JokerX's progress pics on getting JDM D15 cleaned up and ready for my Crx
Since this is deff nothing new here I just thought I would post my progress on getting motor ready to swap into my 90 crx - this is a all stock motor basically with a 90-91 si trans with exedy stage 1 clutch and 11lb flywheel and p08 ecu with obd0 to obd1 conversion. I am to lazy to do the wiring and just dont have the time right now and since its tax time I am going to buy the whole obd0 to 1 ecu harness with complete engine conversion harness from rwyire.com plug and play baby
and hopefully will be in the car within the next couple weeks - will be tossing the the exhaust mani and in place I think I will be using the JG Edelbrock headers
anyway onto pics
Motor when I got it last week

This was yesterday after stipping the valve cover and painting the intake manifold which I think looked like *** (black metal flake) The person at autozone should have smacked me

And this is today after getting the wrinkle finish on the valve cover - still not dry which is why its still kinda shiny it will be dull when it dries. I also got the block painted I used rebuilders cast finish
and redid the intake manifold a more resonable color with throttle body. Yesterday i just painted the TB with the cast finish and it looked like *** also so I did it in the aluminum color like the manifold and polished the stock fuel rail a bit. Im trying to make it look as clean as possible with what I have to work with

more to come ..........

I liked the valve cover stripped but there were stains on it you can see by the spark plug tubes and on the front of the valve cover that wouldnt come off. Thats why I went with the wrinkle black on it.

looks good. that is what i am doing to my a6 bottom end when i swap my y8 topend and throttle body on. i will sand down the tops of the letters though so they are in silver. black crinkle coat and aluminum paint all the way.
yea I got it inside as you can see but in all the years of painting alternators it has never caused any problems. There was no way in hell I was taking it apart as they are so cheap its just easier to replace if it ever was affected by the painting which it shouldnt be.

you sprayed too much paint at one time on the valve cover for the wrinkle paint.
too heavy of a coat.
i liked the look before, silverish VC with the black intake manifold.

it needs to dry out and get some heat on it even 2 days later it is still tacky once it gets some heat to it it will look great. I did 3 coats about 10 minutes apart its been kinda cold here the last few days which didnt make for the best painting and after I get the engine in the car its always just a matter of stripping it again a redoin it if I dont like it .

trust me. its still gonna dry like that. you need to do a very thin layer, let sit and fully dry, not just flash up. that paint isnt supposed to be thick.
