Harness bar ques ?
I auto-x my 93 si and besides getting racing seats I am want to get a 4 or 5 point harness to help keep me in place. I was thinking of just putting a cage but one they are pricy n two i dont want the added wieght if i dont need to. So i started looking at harness bar and the cheapest i found was like 180 with shipping. Thats pretty pricy in my world for a bar. So i guess my ques is has anyone made one and is there and other way to put the harness safely (key word: safely)?
thanks

Unless you consider a potentially compressing your spine safe, no they are extremely dangerous unless you use a roll bar in conjunction.

you are much safer with the stock seat and seat belt or
a race seat with rollbar/cage with a 5 point harness
There is a trick that you can do that will keep you in the seat:
1.) Put you seat all the back.
2.) put your seat belt on
3.) pull is tight.
4.) yank down on the strap until it locks
5.) hold it tight, and at the same time pull your seat forward as far as possible.
this will keep the seat belt locked.
it will be a little uncomfortable for a minute, but once you are on track it will not bother you, and it will hold you in place.
the best part about it: It's free and it's safer than getting a 4-point.
I use this all the time for auto-x and track events.

Schroth makes a DOT aprooved 4-pt that allows one shoulder to travel slightly more than the other allowing your hip to pivot on one side keeping you from submerining just like the factory 3-pt belt. Why do you say NOT to use the Schroth on the street/Road Course in conjunction with a fixed back seat and roll bar? Thanks, Wes

5-points are always preferrable to 4-points of any variety if you have the additional protection to use them.
To the OP, Sparco makes a harness bar, though I have no idea how much it costs or how well it's built. The IO Port one should be fine regardless.
And guys, he's using this for autoxing, not track use. A harness bar will be fine for that.
