passing smog with cams in CA
for those that have cams installed on your car, what do you do when it comes time for the annual smog test? do you uninstall them for the smog, then reinstall them? or do you look for smog shops that dont care and let you bypass it? i would love to install cams and headers to get the most out of my engine, but i dont know if i can afford the disassembly and reinstallation every year.
What? Im not the smartest guy on here but i was told that if you bought your car brand new or what not you dont have to get it smogD' until 7 years. Thats what i was told. Dont take my word for it

Currently in CA, you can pay an abatement fee for up to 6 years on a new car. This is unless you get popped and the police comment on your ticket that the vehicle has been modified. If that happens the DMV will demand you have it smogged again before they will renew your registration.
I think you might have three options:
1. You find someone who will forge a smog for you. There are some people out there, but they are hard to find. If you can find someone, expect to pay around $250 to $500 to get it done. In most cases this is done indirectly (friend of a friend kind of thing)
2. Once Hondata releases a programmable fuel tuning application, you "might" be able to fuel tune the engine down enough to pass the exhaust emission test (I really have no idea on this one. Since the application is still in R&D, I don't know how much flexibility the user will have in adjusting the Fuel/Air ratio)
3. Remove the cams and reflash the ECU back to stock (if you also get the performance reflash). Personally, I would not do anything with cams until you have a way to adjust the fuel tuning. I am not sure what type of issues would arise with aftermarket cams and stock fuel tuning.
In any case, in my opinion (only my opinion), any change to internals (aside from springs and retainers) is going to be a problem when it come to smogging the engine. Even if the mod is "CARB Ceritifed", you still need have to have the right numbers on the emission test.
