Speaker depth and installing 6.5s
Hi, I'm new here, just bought a 99 Accord 4door EX with the 4 cylinder. I love it.
I did a search and couldnt find a definate answer on the max depth of the 6.5s in the front. According to Crutchfield, you have the cut the back plastic after 2" deep magnet. They say a 2 1/8 will fit after cutting that, but will it clear the window?
Also, what is the best way to get in there to put the speaker in? Does that grille just pop off or do you have to remove the whole door panel? How do I go about either of those? I got my 6x9s in the back no problem, I'm hoping the front is about as easy.
Thanks, and sorry for such a common noob question.

The grills do not come off, so you need to remove the whole door panel. There's one screw behind the handle (top), and one in the arm rest (in the opening where you stick your fingers to pull the door shut). Those need to come out, and then the panel should pop off. For the window clearance, see below. The plastic spacer is 5/8". Your 2.125" depth speakers should fit without a problem.
I'm glad to see you have a little fore thought about this; over all these years I'd say I've seen 100 people come in complaining about the "windows are stuck down"
Then ya get the panel off and find out the new speakers jammed the window.
I remember one lady that was going to sue the dealer because the window tint got scratched, my service manager told her to go sue the stereo shop that installed the speakers.
Good 'heads up' on your part.

Thanks 02accord, that's exactly what I needed to know. Pop off the panels and hook 'em up after cutting the plastic out. It appears Crutchfield was right, 2" of clearance, plus the 5/8ths you seem to have measured, means my 2 1/8s should clear easily. Good deal. Probably do this Monday afternoon after classes since I work again Sunday.
And thank you, hondadude, for the compliment. I like to do things right. I did too many stupid spur-of-the-moment things with my truck (1980 C10 Chevrolet) that turned out like crap because I lacked forthought...all the way up to not thinking water might be in the motor after the fire department put it out... causng hydrolock...and a bent rod. Although it turned out for the better since now I have this Honda
I want my speakers to be out of sight. My 6x9s are wonderfully hidden in the factory spot, as will these 6.5s be, and my amp will be under the passenger seat.
