Default would you guys buy replicas?

I am in the market for a 96-98 CTR front spoiler. I found this site selling replicas for $180 while the OEM enes cost $300 plus
Would you guys take your chances at buying replicas?

Here is the page:
http://www.hatchshop.com/bodystyling...atchshopx.html

Has anyone bought any of these? Quality? fitment issues?

I would, as long as its quality is ok, then why spend 2x more? just so you can say you have a genuine ctr lip?

Default Re: would you guys buy replicas? (dxlst)

thanks for saving me $80.

Now I am kind of torn between 2 setups

This is what I have so far:

CTR rear bumper OEM (came with the rear lip)
CTR rear lip OEM
CTR rear Hatch (no top spoiler) tinted glass

Going to buy:
CTR front spoiler replica
CTR grill replica

But now I fell in love with thw SIR look!

Maybe I should sell all my parst and just buy the SIR lip and keep the stock grill!!

I hate this ****!! I have a lot of thinking to do.
I will be getting my car painted (same roma red) in about a month or so. I really need to decide

I personally have not seen a replica grille that looks exactly like OEM. The mesh they use doesn't look right.

Why don't you just find a used 99-00 Si grille? Same thing as the CTR.

**EDIT** oops...just noticed you have a 96-98

yeah your right...just noticed you said 96-98

here is what I was talking about...

replica *notice the cheesy mesh*

OEM Honda

I'd just spend the money and get OEM if I were you. As far as the rest of the body pieces like rear spoiler, front lip, rear bumper piece, side mirrors...the replicas are pretty much on par.

Another thing to consider is the construction of the lip. Not all lips are created equal. I am pretty sure that the GB CTR-style lip is made from some sort of ABS plastic. My buddy had an ITR-style lip made from that stuff and hated it. I believe Wings West also made a CTR-style lip and that is urethane. Another thing to consider aside from price.

Tell that to CivicDXR. I don't know what your talking about but that looks like it fits JUST like OEM.

Pay attention to the key words here... "Looks like it fits like OEM" Honestly, I find that most aftermarket body parts, if not made by a competent manufacturer in quality materials, will fit horribly. And yes, I am speaking from experience.

I agree with jonas half way done...and I said "FITS" like oem. While some aftermarket parts fit remarkably well, OEM is the only way you can be assured of a PERFECT fit every time. It doesnt come out of a mold made by somebody else. speaking from experience as well.

I can't speak on experience so I think we need the input of someone that actually has "replica" parts on their ride to enlighten us.

I'm pretty sure the replica at revolution is plastic and the replica for $180 at hatchshop is urathane. That is why there is a price difference.

If you read above, my buddy HENRY posted about a freind of his who had replica parts. That was me. I was foolish and bought a replica ITR lip off some cheesy company online. It fit "okay", but okay Isn't good enough for me. To be truthful, there were gaps everywhere, the lip chewed into my bumper, it was made out of some totally flimsy plastic that would break if you looked at it too hard...I can go on forever. Basically, I sold it and bought the OEM ITR lip, which slid on in two seconds, bolted up right away, and of course fit flawlessly. Only cost a few more bucks factory painted anyways. (and I do really mean only a couple of bucks)

Different car different scenario. I now own a 1993 Civic HB. I wanted a nice lip for the front. I was definately gonna go the OEM route, but I fealt it was too subtle for my tatses. After some researching and seeing parts in person, I went with the Wings West RS lip. Although it is aftermarket, I can honestly say that it is a top quality piece. Full urethane construction, and a OEM-like fit.

It all just goes to show you, you can find aftermarket parts that fit well, they're just not coming from Aerospeed or APC. Dare I also say, sometimes you do get what you pay for. A $99 dollar plastic CTR lip will fit just like you think it will...Like ****.

I understand YOU had a bad experience with a "replica" lip but that doesn't mean ALL aftermarket lips don't fit well as you stated. For all you know there might be other guys out there that have had good experiences with replicas and to have this guy(B16aEK) take ONE bad experience is not fair.

Now Wings West is a good company that makes good quality parts. Wings West also makes a CTR Replica Lip. You can vouch that their parts are top notch so this would be a perfect alternative for B16aEK to get a quality piece at a obtainable price opposed to the more expensive OEM CTR one.

After all, aren't we trying to help him decide? I know I am.

thanks man...I will definatelly look into the WW one.

I found it for $235 at the WW site. Any one know where I can get it cheaper. OEM is like $300.
The one in Hatchshop is only $180. Does any one have experience with the 180 one?

By me sharing my experience, that is my way of heliping. I'm not here to hold anyones hand through basic deciscions in life. I don't ask people to make my mind up for me, I do what I want. In my opinion, those cheap plastic lip spoliers are all made like ****, and I'd never buy one, or reccomend anyone to purchase one.

If you read my post a little closer, I clearly stated that some aftermarket parts are made well. You just have to research them and be careful. BTW, the best prices on WW parts can be found through New Way Autosports.

Email Armen supersonicblue21@yahoo.com

He deals with all of Wings West products. I got my CTR lip from him for $195 shipped. That was the best deal I found.

Here's a little snapshot:
