I need to repair my 250Kmi old rack. The tierod ends are shot.

Either I am buying a rack from a junkyard and rebuilding it (so I can still drive during rebuild)

Or

I will buy an entire rack and tierod end set to replace mine with.


My best guess is that it is around $100 less to rebuild (I am going OEM, not aftermarket low ratio).
Am I correct in my math?
Will the hassle I avoid just buying one, instead of rebuilding myself, be worth more than the extra $$ ?

I have priced Rack&pinion unit + tierod ends for the new one

The rebuild I priced with old rack + new pinion+ end cap/bushing+ tierod set.

did I overlook anything in my pricing?

I wasnt worried about the difficulty, I put the engine in my car among many other projects....

I wanted to be sure I was making my decision based on complete information.

If the cost is the same for a replacement vs. a rebuild, ......
