Please help...
I want a quick car w/o having to pay around $30K for a WRX or something along those lines, so I came up with this plan and I'd very much like to know what you guys think, since a lot of you might already be running something similar.
-Buy a '90(or close) CRX for around $1,500
-Strip it. Everything in the interior is out, everything not performance related.
-Put in two used or new Sparco 4 pt. racing buckets.
-A nice racing wheel.
-Buy and install a turbo kit similar to this one
-Buy an intake and install it.
-Get some Brembo rotors and calipers.
All it's going to have inside are the two seats, no carpet or liners. Nice and clean.
What's a reasonable horsepower number that it'll get to?
Thanks for the time.</TE
I also have this big worry. These cars are old, they have around 200.000 miles on them. Can they handle it. And I mean this in engine resistance, hoses, lines, pistons, etc... Overall integrity and reliability.
Thanks again.
P.S: To clarify for some, this will not be a track only car. I'm looking for a hobby, something to work on. As someone said, I know it's not going to be up to the caliber of a brand new car, but I'm hoping it will be a pretty fast car, a fun project, something to do, and hopefully under 5,000.

the only thing in that list that will affect horsepower is the turbo. and there are too many variables in your setup. my suggestion is to spend a lot of time reading and searching. if you want a crx to be as fast as a wrx, you might as well spend your $30k on a wrx. people around here do it for the love of the ef platform, and wrenching on a 16+ year old car is no picnic.
you might want to look into getting an si, if you are planning on turboing the car. you wont get very far with a dx or hf.
i dont know what you mean about "engine resistance" but turboing a car with 200k on the clock is very risky. lots of people do it on here because they have this bug that makes them want to go fast. they blow their stuff up, and start over with a new swap and do it all over again. turbo setups can be made to be reliable, but then we are back talking about how you might as well buy a wrx.
whats that old saying...
fast
reliable
cheap
you can only have 2 with any car. especially with an EF
all im trying to say here is that if you expect to get similar performance from ef with your list of mods, and a wrx, then your either going to have to spend a lot of money, or your gonna have to be happy with lining up with a wrx and getting beat a lot.
with that all said, there is no better platform to start learning, than with an ef.

what maverick said theres to many variables as in how the car was maintained how they drove it what type of oils and gas they ran it on! but since you dont want to spend alt of money this is what I would do! find a nice CLEAN crx like clean clean. gut it whatever you dont want and then sale that stuff off. you can probally get a few hundred dollars back!and you will have a nice shell left basically! anyways with that money you have piece together a home made turbo kit! everything will run you around $600 or less that including injectors!the bright side of this is you wont have cheap *** china made **** that will break on you as soon as you put it on!honestly though If you want to be really fast your gonna need to rebuild your block! I dont know if you are mechanically in,inced or not. but I hear engine builds are kinda pricey! but if you know how to do it do it rebuild it from the bottom up so to say! get new rods, pistons, valves, seals all around! new water pump head gasket arp headstuds!with that alone you can handle probally handle 12psi+ safely. if you are just gonna track it or not have it as a DD then just boost at like 15 and you will be pretty fast!Id say thats about $4 or 5,000 worth of stuff including the car! better than 30,000! not sure about boosting numbers but that sounds about right
