Supercharging a 1991 CRX Automatic?
So, what do you guys think, is it a good idea or a bad idea. Jackson racing makes a supercharger kit for the sohc engine found in the CRX standards and I might just want to do that. Auto to manual swap is too much work, may as well buy a new CRX and turbo just doesnt work well with an automatic. I talked to the guys down at King Motorsports and they said that supercharging my car was about all i could really do to get some significant numbers. Let me know what you think, be honest, thanks
I think installing the supercharger is more work than swapping a tranny, IMO. the tranny bolts on. The supercharger needs your ecu to be chipped so you can tune it on a dyno or with a wideband. plus the supercharger is like $2000, a junkyard si tranny is $500 at most. If it was me I would do both but the more cost effective option is a manual
What about switching out all the wires, getting new harnesses, putting in a pedal, new gauge cluster, and all that jazz, thats not gonna be cheap either is it?
Barely any wiring, plus you can add to your current harness. You don't "need" a new gauge cluster, and i've done the pedal assembly swap, it's not that hard.
Please correct me if i am wrong but wiring from a CRX Automatic standard, to a b16, which is mpfi, not dpfi, is alot more work than adding a supercharger. I guess i dont know, but putting in the d15b in my 94 Civic CX hatch ended up costing alot more than I thought it would and the wiring was a bit harder than I thought it would have been. Maybe I just dont know enough? I really like the idea of a sleeper automatic though.

I say screw it its not worth going through all the effort to S/C a auto civic its going to make it a little bit more faster. Your better off swaping in another motor. I believe the JRSC is only mad foe 88-91 SOHC SI model correct me if Im wrong

yes, if he has an automatic it must be dual point, I have never seen an auto-si. so you would need to go mpfi , wire it up, get a new ecu, chip it, buy the supercharger kit, get bigger injectors, get it tuned, get a header, and intake.
Or take the transmission off, bolt a flywheel on with clutch, bolt the tranny on, bolt in the new pedal assembly from the junkyard, do a small amount of wiring ( you just have to run the reverse wires from the transmission, and connect the wire so the car thinks its in Park so it starts) drill a couple holes for the linkage and you are pretty much done, you dont need a new cluster. if you dont want a si tranny you can probably get a dx manual with all the swap stuff for $200

Where in this entire thread did you mention a B16? How was i supposed to know that, when all you've said so far was "S/C vs tranny swap". I can't read minds.
And am i correct in understanding that you want to supercharge the dualpoint?
