need help removing gauge cluster in 94 lx?ASAP
I got you on this one, I've done this a few times
OK, so you know, this requires taking out the instrument panels in the dash to get the cluster out. I don't have my car in front of me but I'll tell you all I remember. Make sure the tilt wheel is all the way down. First off is the two screws in the top of the cluster. You have to take out the rear defrost unit, cruise and sunroof controls, you can get both of those two out with a small flathead screwdriver and pry them out, then unplug. heater and fan ***** next, just pull them straight off. Remove the plastic protector on the odometer reset, just pull it off. Now look where you took the defrost and cruise control units out, there are some phillips head screws holding the plastic dash insert in. Take the screws out. You can start pulling on the side closest to the drivers side. The right hand side is a little tougher to get out, sometimes requires a bigger flat screwdriver. It's not going to come all the way out on that side because the heater controls are still connected to the cables. You can replace the guage cluster without disconnecting the cables and electrical on the back, but it's a pain in the *** to try and work on the cluster with that thing flopping around so I recommend taking it out, it's not that much more work. You can pull it partway out and disconnect the cable and unplug the electricals on it. Don't be afraid to use a little muscle, that dash insert can bend a lot more than you think. Anyways, once you're sure you have all the screws out, grab the dash insert on the bottom and pull out near the steering wheel. You may have to pry under the top of the guage cluster to get that part of the insert to pop out. Once you get the insert out there will be four philips screws on tabs that are holding the cluster itself in. Take them out and the cluster should be able to move around. Maneuver it around a bit until you can reach the three electrical plugs on top of it. Don't worry about order, they are each specifically designed for the socket, so you can't get them messed up. So once you unplug the cluster, just pull it out, stick the new cluster in there and plug it in, and everything else is opposite of removal. Good luck, let me know if you get stuck and I'll try and help you out.
