oh and i have a 91 crx hf with an ls motor
its a 93 and i hooked the fan straight up to the batt and it worked but when i drive it doesn't come on at all fuse is good there could be an open or short to ground some where but i don't have the time right now and i jus want it to come on when i drive because when i get stuck in traffic its starts to over heat
i did it on my crx with a d16y8 the switch on teh y8 is different then the one on the a6 so all i did was leave the fan plugged in then took the 2 wires that are suposed to plug into the back of the block on the a6 and ran then to a switch simple work great when u think the engine needs a little cooling flip the switch ask any questions u wanna know ill try to help
yeah thats my plan b cuz i don't wanna put in any switches right now i'm moving and i really don't have anywhere to move to so i'm jus packin and i need my car to be running right or at least till i can get a place to give me some time

Two items: has it never come on, or do you not catch it coming on? I'm down here in Miami and only after I've been beating on it for a while does it come on. If it doesn't ever come on though, you'll have to replace the relay which likes to go bad with age.
Oh...well then.....two options.
- It's the winter, it's nippy out, you won't overheat unless something is mechanically wrong. Worry about it come spring.
- Run the power line of the fan to a 12 volt switched line, that way it's only on when the car is on. Remember proper fuse usage, pretty much all you have to do is bypass that relay.

dude there are 2 wires coming out of the fan run one to ground usually the black on and the other one to a switch taht is coming off of 12v i have this on my car, just put a switch in the car.....
from the switch tere will be 3 inputs one from 12v from battery then the ohter wire is from the fan, then you have to ground the switch .... those are the 3 wires to the switch then jsut ground the fan to the healght bolt or somethign!

If you're on such a limited budget don't fudge with it for now. It's still winter, you have time. That money could be better spent on putting food in your mouth.

On a D series the thermo switch is next to the oil filter. it is screwed into the block with two wires coming out. connect the two together and wala running circuit when key is on, but the part is only 15.00 bucks at auto-zone. ... thermo fan switch
yeah i'll do what i can do even tho its cold if i get caught in traffic its starts to run hot its dark now so if i can still live here i'll mess wit it tomorrow
Seriously though, you shouldn't overheat. I drove around oblivious to the fact my fan didn't work all through the summer hear, it was only till one day in September I tried to remember the last time I heard it.
if the fan isnt working, you shouldnt be in traffic at idle. even in a cold day. you CAN overheat, and if you do, its very bad, not worth the risk of not having a properly operating cooling system.
you can make a simple switch by taking out the big boot in the back of the engine block, near the oil filter. thats the coolant sensor for the fan. it has 2 prongs. you can bypass the sensor by splicing a ground to one of those wires. if you add a switch inline with your ground wire, its a manual radiator fan switch. if you do it right, the radiator fan will operate like normal when you dont have it switched on.
