Default midframe brace on '00 gsr but not 96?

So as i disect my new 96 i come to realize that it doesnt have the same frame brace that my 00 did. I put the brace on the 96 and theres no holes drilled and it doesnt fit so well.

My question is, is this frame brace even needed? should i drill holes to install this on my car? is there an aftermarket one i can pick up?'

or is it even not a brace and im just confusing myself and itw as just a 3 piece bolted on metal thing below the rear seat on my 00 gsr

Yea I'm pretty sure it's there for stiffening the structure/safety reasons, and older models don't have it (I don't know what year they started putting it in) so obviously if it doesn't come stock with it then it's not needed.

is there any aftermarket product to replace this? not only do i see it as stiffening the chassis but i also figure its there for safety as well to help hold the sides of the cars a bit better

You could rock one of these. It's a 4 point subframe brace. Not recommended if your car is super low.

Theyre called an H-Brace.
I know NRG makes a nice one, I actually ordered one a while ago, it should be coming any day now.
Megan also makes some, and ebay has some as well.

Mine costed 58 bucks, and I know theres a sponsor here that sells the NRG one for 50 bucks, plus shipping.

I was under the impression that the brace under the rear seat was to help in a T-Bone collision but not really sure.
To make your car a little stiffer you can always get an ASR subframe brace with an ITR rear sway bar, and/or a miracle X bar

Yes you can use the H brace for daily driving, but I dont recommend it for slammed cars. I had it on my Integra with Tein S-Techs (1.5" drop) and I never scrapped or hit the H brace.

This is true, same thing happend to a friend of mine. But this isnt so much the H brace's fault as it is the driver. If your car is slammed, you really need to be careful going over dips and bumps. My friend cannot drive for **** and bangs up his oil pan all the time. So when he installed the H brace it came to no surprise that he hit bottom, broke the brace, and broke the nuts on the subframe. Again, if you're gonna drive low...you gotta drive slow.

BTW, I sell both Megan & NRG subframe braces. PM me if you want.

Well my suspension setup is(not on the car yet) GC coilovers with koni yellows, ITR rear sway, ITR rear strut bar, Nuespeed 4-point front strut bar(havent picked up yet but i think this is the one i want unless anyone has a better recomendation for a better price) and an NRG h-brace, i figure my chassis will be stiff enough, im just being cautious and just like slammeddc2 ssaid i was under the impression that this might actually be in the car to help hold up in accidents

Most strut bars are made of aluminum (or CF) and wouldnt hold up in an accident at all. They're made to intended to minimize chassis flex, but not to reinforce the frame.

I heard having the "H" brace makes it a PITA to do a simple oil change.

Im not talking about a strut bar as a reinforcer, its a 3 piece steel thing that goes from side to side under the back seat

and its not like doing an oil change is a walk in the park on the integra anyways (it is, but not the oil filter)

Hmmm, I have an H-brace and I have no problem doing oil change, but maybe a oil filter relocater line might help!
