Default Honda CRX: Significantly worse than average crash test rating

Has anyone else also heard this story? Do you feel your CRX is a deathtrap? Has anyone installed an airbag in their CRX?

Look at the size of the car. What else do you expect? Get over it.
An airbag would probably be worse in this car than no airbag.
Yes its a death trap, just like every other car its size.

Stupid thread.

Man, people are too concerned with safety these days. Nowadays kids have to ride bikes with helmets in most cities or it's against the law. It's a good idea to fire someone on a Friday so they don't go "postal" on the office. Airbags are becoming standard on cars. Parents aren't allowed to beat the **** out of their kids for spilling Kool-Aid on the carpet anymore.

This country has turned into one great big vagina

When I was little I used to get the belt, the wooden spoon, fall down and scrape my knees, ride a bike with no padding, etc.

IBTL!!!

Edit: I'm just playing, OP. Don't be mad

A crx is like a motorcycle... with more "steel" around it... to puncture your lungs with.

Too true, it seems like every wreck thread in this forum has bitch on a phone involved in it, usually driving an oversized SUV that makes them feel "safe".

My roommate and I were on are way to school this morning in the CRX and he asked me if I could fit under a semi truck...... its damn close.

Also I'd say a side impact would be the worst becasue the doors are paper thin and you sit right there......

I mean the car is extra small which aids in avoiding accidents but is terrifying when people dont see you.

They aren't as bad as some might think. From NHTSA archives -

1989--- Honda Civic CRX------ 2HB-- 1882 (**** ) (*****)

Given by year, model, doors, weight, then number of stars for side impact right and left. Look for yourself - http://www.safecarguide.com/ex...e.htm . But crash test aside, CRXs are little more than motorcycles with enclosed cockpits. You go head to head with an SUV in a CRX at anything more than a roll you're in serious trouble. If you want something safe buy a Volvo, you want fun keep you CRX but drive defensively.....

Yeah, people forget that these cars are 16-19 years old. Back when they were new, they had to be up to standard, other wise they would not have even been sold here, but they did well back then, they are just outdated with all the new saftey measures there are now.

Make your car agile enough to dodge most situations and take a defense driving course if your really worried about it.

On a side note how big of a difference do roll bars make when in an accident?

I can pretty much bend any sheet metal on the CRX just by looking at it wrong...
