Default brand name header vs no brand header

if i was to purchase a no name header would it not perform as well as a brand name?
which one is better the 4-2-1 or the 4-1?

Your B20B is already illegal in CA so you won't pass emissions, I'm sure you know this. Buy a generic 4 to 1 header if your looking for high end horsepower.

I've always kinda thought of brand name headers as being more of a cosmetic part, if that makes any sense. I've seen comparisons where a high end header will make a few more hp, though. If you were going for an insane NA build, it might be worth it to spend $1000+ on a Hytech header, but for a street car I'd rock a generic all day.

Honestly I made the mistake of buy'n a cheap ebay 4-2-1 header and I will never do that again...It leaks like crazy...I'm go'n back factory until I can get my GReddy!

But then again on the other spectrum of things one of my friends bought a 4-1 on ebay and it seems to be hold'n up ok but he had to hack it to fit right...Honestly I think its better to just go name brand

A header on a Honda makes hardly any power as it is, and there's a $1000+ price gap. Like I said, if you wanna squeeze even bit out of the motor, Hytech or SMSP etc are the way to go, but I don't see anything wrong with a generic header like Megan Racing if your goal is to get your exhaust the same diameter all the way back. DC, GReddy...all those can be had for the price of the literal-no-name ones so that's what I refer to when I say generic.

By posing this question in the Cosmetic / Appearance Forum its obvious what your intentions are with purchasing a header, so just buy a no name header off Ebay and call it a day.

well you posting a performance question in the appearance forum is what he means. the people telling you name brands dont make power just get the generic ones are people who just dont know what it is to own a quality product. you get what you pay for. remember that when u make your decision.

generic headers arent that bad. https://honda-tech.com/zero...age=2 check the 3rd to last post. guilotine made 217 whp and 144tq with a mugen replica header.

I have a Mugen replica header made by Top Speed... The reason I got it is because I needed a header quickly, to get my car running and off the jacks. The piece is surprisingly nice tho, all SS, mandrel bends, very smooth, nice design... I plan on either turbo or a K swap in the long run, so until the time comes I am happy with my descision. No point in investing a lot of money into a part I know will be replaced, as long as it holds up in the meantime... which is has 100%.

plus I still managed to make 151 whp with just I/H/E/hi flo cat on a stock B16, so HA.

edit: this header is not a complete piece of garbage BTW, its on par with a DC SS header price wise

To me personally...spending $700-$1000+ on a top of the line header isn't worth the extra 7hp that you'd gain over cheeper priced header.

I'm not trying to sound smart. I see it as your posting a strictly performance question in a forum that deals with Appearance and Cosmetic. I take that to mean you want a cool stainless header to rock under your hood at the lowest cost possible and you are not necessarily concerned with the important things that would go into making a decision on which header to buy.

Alot of people have good points throughout this thread but keep in mind that the "high dollar" headers usually have extensive R&D work, high quality welds, etc., that have proven performance and quality.

Read through this information. It's known as the great header test and should provide tons of useful information in your search

I don't rock a single fake part and I've never had one problem with your defense of high end stuff. Furthermore, my choice to recommend something like a Megan header is completely logical in terms of most people's situations (street cars, daily drivers), and I never denied the superiority of something by SMSP or ripped on people who buy them. It seems like you see modding cars as a near moral issue with two sides, and anyone who doesn't share every one of your priorities must automatically share the priorities of the ones you disagree with. I'm not sayin what you think I'm saying.

Edit- modified days after because my original response wasn't phrased in a productive way
