Do you still consider a Civic as a "small" car?
When my 07 Coupe was parked beside my 87 Lincoln Mark 7,it didn't look much smaller. It was shorter, but it was just as wide and as tall. Also,I walked past an older Accord, one of the square shaped ones, and it looked smaller than my Civic. Are they making cars bigger to make them safer?
Does anyone konw the size classification of the Civic nowadays?
Is it still a compact or is it up to midsize?
I'd agree civics have definitely grown over the years.
Bigger cars=more features to pack in=more interior room (comfort level to get away from old tin box feel)=safer because of mass. It's a combination of things. As technology and opinions change, so do the designs.

I consider a small car only because there are not many cars smaller than it now (companies are releasing new cars to fill the void the growing Civic left... Fit, Versa, Xa, Xb, etc)... next to my mom's 1996 Accord sedan, my car looks big

I don't know if you can consider the sedan a mid-size because its dimensions aren't that different. All I know is that the "back seat" in the coupe is horrendous. I am 6foot and have to tilt my head or slouch to even consider fitting in the back. I've actually heard complaints from people 5foot 8.
I'm 5'9'' and I have no problem with the backseat.... yeah I've sat in the backseat of my own car I know, maybe it's a problem if the person sitting in the front seat is like 6'3'' or something and has the seat all the way back.... that'd make anyone uncomfortable.
When I think of a "small" car I think of the old civic hatchbacks, Honda fit, Toyota Yaris, Mazda miata, Chevy Aveo, etc. etc. The Si really isn't in that category.
Mid-size sedan would be a Nissan Altima, Chevy Impala, Toyota Camry, etc. The Si sedan is a little bit smaller than those I believe.

It really seems like all Japanese cars are getting bigger. Some even to the point where new models have to be introduced. Think of the size of mid 90's camrys compared to the new ones. My Si Sedan is at least the size of a mid 90's accord. That's one of the reasons prices have gone up on the civic, and the fit was introduced to fill the void left as the civic stepped it up a little feature-wise, size-wise, and price-wise.
