Default Best setup to run on a DA. PLEASE VOTE!

Taken from a previous thread I created about the possibility of a b16 swap in my 1990 DA

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by sixfiveoh &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">
I've been thinking lately about opting for the first gen B16a swap in my 90 DA, It's the easiest on my wallet currently, and it would be nice to retire my tired old LS motor, but I have a few concerns of people complaining about the laggyness due to the 9ft/lbs less of torque.

I'm hoping that the higher hp/higher revving capabilities will make up for it? I like to hit up the mountains occasionally, and I find myself staying at 6k alot on my LS motor. Could the B16 really feel slower than the LS in the mountains when I have more RPMs to go, regardless of the torque?

How much abuse can these motors take? I don't want to blow the motor because I'm constantly revving high to make up for the lost torque.

Any help is appreciated </TD></TR></TABLE>

After reading some of the responses in the thread, I came up with another setup solution, a B20z w/ B16 cable tranny, possibly with LSD.

Which setup would you recommend for my needs? The car will rarely be dragged, the power will mostly be needed on mountain/canyon drives.

The swap prices I have been quoted, for parts and installation. (I can probably find the parts elsewhere cheaper, but just to get an idea)

B20z w/ B16 LSD Tranny - $2425
B20z w/ B16 Tranny, No LSD - $1950
B16a w/ B16 LSD Tranny - $2300
B16a w/ B16 Tranny, No LSD - $1900

I believe that I will go with an LSD either way, but what would you recommend?

TIA

pull your LS motor out, rebuild the block, with forged pistons and forged rods. Piece together a turbo set up. A lot more fun to drive, and will be faster then any of the set up you listed.

This can be done for the price, if you're patient and shop around. You can just rebuild with stock internal, or just buy a diff LS block with lower miles if you dont plan on pushing too much boost through it.

I would go ls turbo, but if you know your **** I would go ls/vtec. Can't beat the ls/vtec torque.

LSvtec torque will be no where near the torque of a LS-T. I've had one and seen a few LS-T that made more torque then HP.

if you want to Stay NA then do a LS/VTEC. but it'll cost a lot of money to have a fast LS/vtec set up. I helped a buddy put together a LS vtec. it was a "budget". we shopped around and bought everything at the best price we could find. ended up spending 2500-3000. motor end up making 211whp.

I'd love to go with a turbo setup, but frankly I don't think I have the time or deep enough pockets required. All of the swaps listed can be installed in my car within 1-2 days by a local shop, I have no garage space to attempt it on my own.

You could do LS/VTEC...I personally dont see the point in going down in displacement ie: B16.

Will a b18c1 really feel better than a b20z w/ b16 tranny?

How's the trans on the freeway? I've heard 5th gear at 70mph puts you at 4k

this is true....it's loud and annoying, but 0-60 is nice, especially for just an LS right now....i can't even imagine what it's gonna be like when I put the GSR head on there later this month lol.

B20z / b16 w/LSD

B20 is so nice. You don't even need to downshift out of fifth to pass on the highway!

Low B16 gears may run the rpms a little high though.

It's loud? How so?

True, I'm hoping it wont be too high that cruising at say 75 on the freeway will cause strain on the motor/tranny tho.

not sure what the best plan is... But i have been searchin and reading for the past year and i think i have came up with mine.
rebuilt stock b18a1 with a valve job, b16 tranny, and turbo

I was going to try an ls/vtec but i have heard more negative than good even though they are badass when build right (friend has one in his integra)

some people swap out the 5 gear on an ls tranny and put it in the b16, sounds like a good idea and i have thought about doing it, but for some reason people say it does not help and im not sure why, i mean its the same gear really.

4 grand at around 80 right?
