I HIGHLY doubt you need a valve adjustment that early in the motors life. Unless it was set wrong from the factory or your on nitrous, turbo, or revving to 8.5k in your R18 and even then its questionable.

It's either normal valve noise in colder weather, injectors clicking, or purge valve clicking. Valve adjustment shouldn't need to be adjusted till almost 100k miles.

All engines produce some form of noise from the valvetrain... I dont think its specific to Honda's/ any certain mileage.

correct, but i've noticed it on honda more then any other manf. could just be coincidince.....but either way, 17,000 miles should make minimal noise.

i didnt say it was honda specific, i said honda valves tend to tap...i work on many kinds of cars, and honda valves are #1 loudest...my friend has an 02 wrx and you cant hear his valves, but in the future who know

The 2001 and newer civic only should have the valves adjusted when there noisy, which is almost never. the new civics will almost never need the valves adjusted before 150k. ive never seen a tech adjust valves on a 2001+ civic, and we have 14techs in our shop. i have a blown d17 in my garage, 265k, never had the valves adjusted. and the owner didn't even change the oil regularly. has a spun rod bearing.
