This new to me CRX has been giving me what I expect will be ongoing key troubles. It only came with 1 well worn key received from previous owner, and it was hard to start and get in the driver door.
I used that "lock ease" stuff and got 2 new keys from pepboys and while this has helped somewhat, the iginition key seems to still put up a fight and seems to be getting worse.
What sorta $$ pain am I in for?
Sould I be looking for an all new cylinder kit for the 4 locks, (igntion, doors, hatch).
This is probably going to be expensive dealer only stuff I guess
Your help/advice appreciated!

You might be best off making a project day out of a CRX at a local junkyard. Removing the ignition and locks (make sure they junkyard actually has the keys first though) Either that or try to talk to your Honda dealership to see if they can get you a copy of the original key.

yeah perhaps that is the way to go. I wish the owner did what I did when I got my first new honda, get a 3rd spare key and keep one of the originals tucked away for when the others wear out. Cutting a new key out of a worn out one is only so good!

isn't getting a copy of the original possible if and only if you have that tag (which everybody loses) they give out with the original keys when purchased?

just need the vin#..so bring the registration or title, proof of id and some money..they'll either get you a new key or give you the specs to take to a locksmith

I'll just have to wait until the title is back from penndot. Hope it keeps working until then!
I really hope they can do this. I really don't want to fork out mega bucks for new cylinders.

when i worked at honda, we needed the vin number, ID, and proof of ownership. the parts dept computer will give the employee the code, and he can cut a new key.
every once in a while though, we would get some shady characters that didnt have proof of ownership and get ballsy with me because i wouldnt cut them a key.
i had to explain it to my douchebag boss like 50 times, because he was like.... "what's the problem? cut the key" double hammer!

Called my local dealer, he said all he needs is the vin. I am going down over my lunch and will take the title and registration (which just got totday from penn-dot). We'll see if they really ask for proof of ownership or not before selling to me.
I guess if you show up with the car and a worn out key that starts it, that is technically proof of ownership, or at least possession.

I'm back, the dealer didn't press too much once he saw I had the original key, but I gave him the title as it had the vin on it and insisted that he pull it from the number and not the key.
You wouldn't believe the difference between the two, the new key cut from the code acually had 2 extra bumps at the end. I told him my issues and concerns with the ignition lock being hard to turn, so we priced up a cylinder kit, (260). I crossed my fingers the new key would work in the old cylinder and so far so good. It turns way easy in the doors and hatch and while the cylinder isn't quite as new smooth it as good as any other car. In the 10 traffic lights back where I key-ed on and off, it worked flawlessly.
Let this be a lesson, replace those keys early at the first sign of being worn! They were only $2.50 a piece.
I'm just hoping the cylinder doesn't go in a year from now.
