Default Compilation of 06 Civic "Issues"!

So far this is all i've come up with based on posts on H-T. I gave up after 21 pages. New buyers and potential buyers be on the lookout! Just a "heads-up"!

-- DBW
-- dashboard creaking noises
-- Rev hang
-- 3rd gear notchiness
-- struts/shocks "knocking sound"
-- Loose rear quarter window
-- over-stated mileage
-- fog lights busting
-- MPG
-- crappy paint quality
-- Front speaker rattle
-- Rear speaker rattle
-- loose dash defroster vent
-- crappy Honda dealer customer service
-- weak all-season tires
-- VSA (07 Si)
-- Transmission/Gears
-- Steering wheel grind noise
-- Headliner Rattle

Good job putting it together, but you know they're going to kill you for not describing the issues, or announcing some sort of point.....

most of them pretty much are self-explanatory. The VSA issue regards someone posting about it not disengaging even when it's turned off causing the car to bog.

Transmission/Gears....Someone had to have new gears put in just under normal non-aggressive driving.

And there's WAY too many complaints about Honda dealers' customer service to list them all.

I can tell you right now the swirl marks suck, and the easy chipping.

This isn't just my issues....it's H-T member in general that i've gathered. The paint looks nice....other than the excessive orange-peel around the rear fender areas and doors.

The list may look bad, but there are plenty of people that are not having any issues at all.

Personally I haven't experienced anything listed above except for the paint issues. My HRP seems to chip easy.

A couple fixes for you RICO:

-- DBW- Whats the problem with this? Other than the rev hang, which is common for any DBW car.

-- dashboard creaking noises

-- Rev hang- Falls under DBW problem above.

-- 3rd gear notchiness- Every Honda has this pretty much.

-- struts/shocks "knocking sound"
-- Loose rear quarter window
-- over-stated mileage

-- fog lights busting- Not an isolated problem just to civics, alot of cars have this
problem, has alot to do with following to closely/driving habits.

-- MPG- pretty common knowledge to know the advertised MPG doesnt happen until the car is borken in a fair amount.

-- crappy paint quality
-- Front speaker rattle
-- Rear speaker rattle
-- loose dash defroster vent

-- crappy Honda dealer customer service- Has nothing to do with the 06 car

-- weak all-season tires- Cant really complain about a part that isnt failing

-- VSA- 06 civics did not have this.

-- Transmission/Gears
-- Steering wheel grind noise
-- Headliner Rattle

I think alot of people are being very very picky.

i find it funny that ive had almost NO problems...i know every car is different but

ive had a few problems with 3rd gear

ive noticed sometimes my steering wheel has a funny sound when i turn it (never heard anybody else complain about this)

to argue with you:

the all season michelins i have are AWESOME in terms of tread life and driving in snow the past two weeks and rain all year.....

still have NO DBW problems at all...perhaps i just adapted quickly to it before i ever noticedit.. i dont know....

I also get 32-33 MPG on almost every tank with mixed highway/city and crazy/grandma driving

nothing else so far

Erratic jerkiness when letting off the gas at certain RPM. More a nuisance really. I'm curious.....some people say that the DBW is supposed to aid in gas mileage....and yet the RSX-S gets the same mileage with cable throttle.

Perhaps. But should it be bad enough to cause some people to grind or completely miss-shift because of the occasional difficulty of the gear.

Define "fair amount".

Sure it does. Alot of dealers try to take advantage of young Si owners and blame the vehicle problems on "driving habits" etc. just cause they think we're irresponsible "kids" or something like that. Somebody had posted about needing their gears replaced and the dealer told the individual that they would only do it that one time and the next time he would have to come out of pocket. That's a blatant accusation from the dealer with no supporting facts given the car was driven normally and not abused with a CAI as the only mod.

Tires are a very important part of a car's performance. What good is a performance sports car if the tires can't keep up with the car?? I'm even hearing now the summer tires aren't all that either.

True. I posted this more as a heads-up to those planning or who just got an Si. Most of the issues are minor and can be corrected rather quickly. Some people will not have any issues at all. But a few of them are popping up rather repeatedly. A car is a serious investment I notice everything about my car (and i'm sure alot of other people do to), so I would be very very picky about a 20K+ investment.

That is not Honda Civic Si only, that is any dealer seeing any young driver period. It is not just contained to new Si owners.

driver error etc has nothing to do with the tranny. Yes it shifts hard when cold. There are way too many Honda trannies to list that do this. Like civics of the past, upgrade the tranny fluid to syncromesh or similar and the problem goes away.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by RICO_ &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Tires are a very important part of a car's performance. The Civic Si is NOT a performance Sports car. This is a sporty compact aimed towards the avg commuter with the need for a slightly sporty feel. The all seasons are absolutely fine for 95% people who drive the car. They are made to be used in year round conditions. Snow, Rain, and Dry. The only people who will complain about this are car enthusiasts. Who no matter what, will upgrade the tires anyways.

Just so you know cars are the worst investments someone can get. There are exceptions, but those cost way to much to even be considered close to this vehicle.

Where are you "hearing" this? I've got the HPT's and they are by far the best summer tires I've EVER owned. The all-seasons aren't great but for the average driver they work quite well.

Yet another whiny thread about the first model year of a car.....doesn't ANYONE realize that they risk having small issues with the first year of ANY model run from ANY manufacturer? Hell, on my mom's '01 Suburban we are still getting development recalls and it is 6 years old. As for the summer tires being crap, I call BS, the Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2 is an excellent UHP tire although there are better options as far as performance per dollar. Also, the All-Season tires don't suck per se, ALL all-seasons are going to have compromised performance in one aspect or another. Finally, all brands will have dealerships that are going to try to take advantage of youth, it is part of being young. Now, go sit down and have a Waaaaamburger with some French Cries and a Whineken before I have to call the Waaambulance.

Good we win.....J/K

RICO_ I understand what you were trying to do here. Its just some of the stuff you have listed really doesnt count because they are the same issues that all car manufacturers have.

A for effort though.

I know. Like I said. These are not MY complaints entirely. They are a "compilation" from what I have read throughout this forum from other members as well. Some more than once. I would post quotes, but there's way too many pages I had to shift through and it would take me forever to do that.

I was trying to set it up as a "heads-up" type of deal for newcomers and newbuyers (not to say that they will have any of the problems, but just to look out for them) of the 06-07 Civic, but I guess I failed.

Some of those aren't really issues...

DBW isnt an issue, its just a new way of doing something that people arent used to yet.

the revhang hasnt really bothered me all that much.

i had to have my 2nd gear replaced. it still went in gear and everything, just had to put a significant amount of pressure to get it out of gear.

honda's customer service was absolutely horrid when it came to the trans rebuild. the rep told me they would never honor the warranty in regards ot the trans again. the car only has 10k miles on it, and with the extended warranty that means i have 90k miles to go on my own.

the stock all seasons are are fine for daily driving... probably better since the treadwear. but if u are taking it to the track or auto X then u will definitely need some new rubber.

i have had no creaking noises whatsoever anywhere in the car other than the subwoofer.

mpg is usually going to depend on the driver and various other conditions.

i have no swirl marks in my paint whatsoever because i dont use a tshirt or some other crappy thing to wash my car. terry cloth, drying clothes, a blower, and good to go. i only have one small rock chip on the hood that i have yet to touch up even though i have teh paint.

i think thats it. oh my 3rd gear also sucks. well it got alot better after installing the comptech short shifter.
