Default >>>A couple of opinions needed on paint.<<<

So my car started out like this. Paint was horrible. Oxidation to the max.

So I went ahead and did the $50 paint job. It worked for a while for me, because I planned on getting rid of the car. But now I want to keep it, so I feel it's time to step up my game with a real paint job.

When I was doing the $50 job, I originally painted over the front and rear moldings because it was my plan to color match. But I changed my mind and sanded the beige off and sprayed some trim paint over. From far it looks good, but up close it looks shoddy.

Now for the upcoming paint job, I will be respraying the car Jasper Green. I am having trouble deciding on 2 things.

1 would be to leave the moldings black or spray color match them. Here's some examples, same color.

or

If black moldings look better, what should I do about the moldings? I've been told that they'll never look OEM again because they have been sanded down and painted, etc.

In which case, I'd go and get different bumpers. In that case, which bumper would look better? 90-91 (1st picture above) or 92-93 (2nd picture above)?

Or should I just color match over my 90-91 bumper? Please no posts telling me to "do what I want to do" because in the long run, I will. I'd just like some input on what you would do if you were in my position.

Thanks in advance.

cars color is actually chine blue metallic.
but same idea..

i would do something different with jasper green and leave the 90-91 front and paint the whole car including the moldings. so a mix between the 2 cars...90 front with painted moldings.

That guy's car isn't Jasper? Looks damn close...

I was gonna use your car as an example of Jasper without painted moldings but the only shots I found of yours were rolling

That was actually my original plan, just looking for opinions, glad someone agrees

I like your car the way it sits. Too bad its not to your liking. I'd say leave the moldings unpainted.

If you saw the paint in person, you'd think differently

Plus the engine bay, door jambs and everything else that's Jasper just kills me. I'd like to keep it OEM.

But at least the $50 job looks good in pictures, so when I look back, I can pretend I had 2 really nice paint jobs

This is what Id personally do...

90-91 bumpers
black moldings
front & rear mudflaps
shaved emblems and badges

and if you have extra money laying around...

JDM thin side moldings and window visors

Thin side moldings will be a definite, and since my car is a 90, there were no "A" symbols yet, so there actually are no holes behind the H's.

I think if you're going green you should paint the moldings.

I like the black moldings better personally. Painted looks good black looks better. Go with the later bumpers. You can't really go wrong though, they will all look good.
