honda-cup - drop us a line
seeing as how there is so far been a very small field this year capping off a dwindling year last year I thought it would be a good idea to get some feedback from current or future interested parties about helping us grow.
if you have a good sugestion nows the time to be heard. some ideas have already been mentioned but I'd appreciate any new ones.
Currently we have dismissed a seperate 1.6L and under class only because there hasnt been enough firm commitments and it dilutes the purpose of Honda-Cup to let the fastest cars race.
Otherwise as we approach the rest of our season
January 26-27-28 California Speedway
March 31-April 1 PIR Arizona (Honda Cup adopted)
May 19-20 Buttonwillow
August 31-Sept 1 (SFR) Infinion
September 28-29 (SFR) Laguna Seca
Final : TBA Willow Springs ? We are waiting for confirmation from TCRA re: their
Nov/Dec. event.
we'd like to encourage more people to join. we would like to invite redline tv back to film again but we obviuosly would like a stronger field.
For those of you that dont know we have grown to the AZ region and also have a class in new zeland but with the sheer size of CA were sure there are some fence sitters and we'd like to get those people on board as well.

I may be wrong, but I think the fastest cars are all running SPEED World Challenge...
Honda Cup looked like a good idea. So did NASA HU. But the customer is always right. And in the end the only guys running Honda Cup are those who created it. And he only guys running HU is... Nobody.
Just my interpretation of the clues at hand, but it looks like Honda people are mostly okay with limited rules. And those wanting more power are buying Evos & STis.
Pity. DART bocks and forged pistons seem like a good idea...

I agree with thawley. I don't have the money to spend more on my motor then I have on my car. I'll stick with a limited ruleset for now. I may come out to one or two races, but committing to a season of club racing with that high of a price tag is not something I'm up to at the moment.
with time attack catching on... i think this year we will see more "shop" cars. there are also more drag racing oriented shops starting to get into time attack, which eventually might turn over to road racers.
the main problems is there are shortage of new road racers. road racing learning curve is a lot steeper, also road racing is more expensive than drag... so it will take a little more time. but i believe it will pick up.
why is there a need for separate 1.6 liter class? i fully believe at 2100 (or is it 2150 lbs) an EF CRX or Civic with 210 whp B16A would be competitive against cars powered by the bigger B engines or even against K series. it has advantage under braking and cornering and it will keep up in the straights. too bad nobody has truly explore that. Andy Hope did pretty well few years ago, but his engine didn't even break 200 whp.
also, for socal honda challenge ppl, there is not much schedule conflict between Cal Club and NASA SoCal. so a properly funded racer can compete in both series. i think most racers lack the time/funds to do 2 series at once.
also, how much media (print magazine) coverage is there on honda-cup? if you guys can get at least one magazine to pick up guarantee coverage, i think it would do the series a lot of good. perhaps Honda Tuning?!

Pretty much sums it up

Just a side comment, but what worked a few years ago will NOT work now, with the kind of power people have been able to generate.
