What is the name for the new civics platform? I can't find it anywhere, and how does it compare to the dc5 or dc2 platforms?

If your talking about the chassis code. The Si coupes: FG1 (2006) FG2 (2007) The Si Sedan: FA5 (2007).

Anyone feel free to correct me

FG1 = '06/'07 Coupe NON Si
FG2 = '06/'07 Coupe Si ONLY
FA1 = '06/'07 Sedan NON Si
FA5 = '07 Sedan Si ONLY

Das eet.

FG = coupe. dc2 and dc5 are coupe/hatchbacks. thats why the rear window opens up with the trunk. i believe there better to mod suspension wise. my friends dc2 has a cpillar bar and a rear upper strut. i have yet to find out where to stick those in an FG.

Nice avatar btw bs101

I think the general consensus is thus:

DC2 = Raw Power with race like ride and interior/setup.
FG2/FA5 = Mad Scientist powerband with a very refined ride and interior/setup.

I'm sure people who have driven the DC2 and FG2/FA5 will have more input. The closest I've ever come to a DC2 was getting my *** handed to me off the light in a 1991 Audi Coupe Quattro.

EDIT: I mixed up DC2 and DC5.... It's been a long day already...

DC5 = More refined, leather seats, plain and stable powerband.

The FG2 and DC5 are comprable vehicles, but the FG2 has a bit more kick in the pants raw feel than the DC5.

i used to have a dc2 teg and it was relatively nice. no where near as smooth as the fg2. the tegs have many more options for tuning everything, but then again most cars do that have been out for over a decade. so if u are trying to figure out which one to go with, then hands down fg2 ftw

thanks about the avatar..

I'm surprised this topic never came out big when all of the civic si vs rsx threads started popping up. I'm trying to decide if I should upgrade my civic to a new civic si sedan, or a 2006 rsx type s, and I want to take into account which platform has more so called "potential"

keep in mind the RSX has been laid to rest.....forever, and the FG was just unleashed a year ago, and with the sales numbers and success, I doubt the Si will go anywhere for a bit.

Hatchbacks are generally lighter, but they, again, generally, do not have the structural integrity of coupes. From what I can tell, the FG2 is a VERY stiff, capable chassis. A lot of the suspension modifcations currently available, appear to be a waste of money. People say the difference between these mods on an FG2 and the same mods on, say the DC5 or EP3, are barely noticeable on the FG2.

More than likely, yes. I haven't driven/driven in an FA5, but it sounds like the platform is a weeeee bit heavier, but supposedly more rigid because of the extra support that the middle pillar adds.

And FYI, the biggest suspension upgrade that I've experienced is the Progress rear sway bar. It's amazing how much confidence it adds to the handling and stability. I'm sure that some coilovers or spring/shocks would add more handling ability as well. Of course, there still aren't shocks out, so you're kinda stuck with coilovers.

I heard the Si sedan outhandles the Coupe.... larger wheel base maybe? I duno...

I know so far the only handling/chassis such mods i have done is the rear sway bar and it helped a lot, added to an already impressive turn.

You're like, the 5th person I've seen say that and I'm really wondering if the slightly longer wheel base or the increased rigidity has something to do with that. Hmm...
