If you are going to go through with it it would highly recommend looking through the list of cars there, because why spend the $ and effort of having a JDM prelude, which isn't all that different from USDM ones when you could have a Skyline or a Soarer. Has anyone dealt with this site?
yea..these cars arent street legal...unless they did what motorex did with the skylines until their sketch asses got caught bringing r34s over....
you can buy it for tracking though which is a good deal...its not that hard to get them over here with out customs getting all up in your grill....you basically remove the drivetrain, doors, trunk, hood, and wheels...then its not considered a full car and youre good to go...

believe me if i had the money to get a skyline in the states i would, which i see they have in stock but it's not worth it. As for the prelude seems like a good deal but if i have to dismantle the car to get it here, expletive 'em. On the other hand if not then i may go through with it (most likely not). gonna check out the DOT sites and see what their rules and regulations are.
lots and lots of money and it is a hassle to get a permit for that. but if its something you really wana do then go for it. just make sure you think it will be worth the money
i'll break it down
F.O.B- free on board
Car cost-2,780 US DOLLARS PLUS 500 US DOLLARS for DOCUMENTS
grand total-3,280
SHIPPING COST- 2,800 to the east coast in a 20ft. container
SHIPPING to MIAMI- FREE (i found that one odd) ANywhere else gets more expensive
to sum it all up if i had this car shipped to MIAMI it would cost me 3,280 US DOLLARS
IF i had this car shipped TO THE EAST COAST IT WOULD COST ME 3,280 plus 2,800 (i hope some ppl in here know how to ADD)

I'd do it if I had the money, but instead I'm just building one myself
It would cost me around $7k to have the car shipped to Houston, and I'd have to drive about 5 hours to pick it up...Still a great deal either way.

ok ive made all the phone calls a while back. 1st off check and make sure that year prelude is on the list of cars the dept of motor vehicles and customs has on file that have already been imported and tested by American safety standards. if it is then they will have a list of things you need to change for example windshields. once the car arrives at the port customs will not let if leave the port until is has been fully converted to us safety specs. you must pay for storage while the car if being converted. getting it registered isnt bad a few extra docs that need to be filled out but if u did it legal and have all ur paperwork from every step of the way your fine registering (here at least other states may differ) that about sums it up. the money adds up way to fast which is why i decided not to.
thats just like a usdm prelude but right hand drive...if your going to go through the trouble to get a jdm prelude get this.

There is an user here that imports cars, I forgot his name but look it up on search, and find out what else you need to replace when the car arrives at the port, I suppose doors, all glass, and I'm sure more things, but find out and if you go through with it have all the parts you need by the time the car gets there so you don't have to pay for the storage while you start buying the glass, ect.
'95 BA8 if you can find his name post it on here, meanwhile i'll try searching. anyway thank for all your info. ppls i'll call DOT and NHSAT and seee what they say, in the mean i don't think this will be a reality. DAMM THESE LAWSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't think its worth it at all.

would i import a car from japan to the US? Yes
Would it be worth it? No
It would be better to just buy a JDM car that is already imported and registered.

I have 2 friends that have purchased GT-R skylines from Japan and had them shipped over to the states and they were sent to New York. There are a few legal issues... but with enough money it can be done without too many 'legal' ties. It's time consuming.
To be honest, a JDM prelude isn't worth importing. Skyline... yes.
