i NEED to pass smog. Please help out!
Ok. here's my situation. My pops paid for my GS-R. (call me spoiled, cuz I am!) Anyways, he HATES it everytime I mod my car. You can read my sig for my mods. He called me today and said that he's seriously gonna sell the car if I don't pass smog. He's scared the mods I'm doin to the car will make it fail the smog. I was tellin him it was no problem and that I'll pass for sure 100%.
Well to be honest, I'm worried as fawk. I should pass smog... right? I mean, everything I have has a CARB legal number and meets emission standards. I just want to be sure before I regret it.
Anyone who's familiar with this setup or know alot about Smog tests, please tell me I'll pass smog and that I shouldn't worry. LMK-!

i don't see why you would fail. Are those cams the stage 1? Do you know any friends that work at any auto repair shops? Just get sniffed first before you actually go out and do the real thing. You can try leaning out the fuel with the VAFC, but you still shouldn't have a problem passing in the first place.

Anyone else? I really think i'll have no problem passin, but I want to be extra careful... I HATE California Rules!!
I just did my smog today and let me tell you, the first place I went to won't smog me once they open my hood. You can't have an intake or any modification to the airbox. They basically do a visual inspection on your engine bay to make sure its all legal or what not. They took a look at my Dc 4-2-1 header and said thats not legal and I need to show the papers proving that its carb approved. I was like WTF theres a carb number stamped right on the header. He said thats wasn't enough proof. So I said forget it, gave my friend a call and he told me to head to 42nd and Lawton in the Sunset district. Theres a 76 station at the corner. One hour later my smog was done.

there are a couple of things you can do to pass.
1. run a good carbon cleaner through your motor I use seafoam.
2. if you still don't pass around the corner from the inspection station
disconnect one fuel injector. your car will run like ****, but it won't smoke and won't have hardly any emmisions. A friend did this with JUN stage 3 cams and left with negative emisions, they owed him emmisions!

if you still have your stock cams, use those, your skunks may pass but it's better to be safe than sorry........especially when the stakes are so high
Thats right they won't let you pass if you have an aftermarket intake or header. Even if you have the carb number stamped on it. They want to see a paper stating it was legal. What bull is that. I recommend either you ask your friends where they get it smogged or you need to put back the oem intake and manifold. They said my exhaust was fine since its after my cat. Goodluck
I still have the Paper I got with my AEM CAI. The paper with the instructions and the code. On the second page, it says 50 States Street Legal! Will that work?
That might work as long as the carb approved number is on it too. You will probably need the paper for the DC 4-1 header. Remember not all shops will be that ****. Some could care less and just automatically pass your visual and go straight into the sniffer part.
damn. I gotta look for my DC Header paper.
I'm gonna have to dig through my Garage and room!!! i HATE this stupid a$$ california emission crap!

i had to get smogged about two weeks ago. went to four places. two said no after looking at my engine, one said change the intake back to stock and i have an AEM CAI
, and the one guy that didnt care what was under my hood had his license suspended because he forgot to pay his fees. so i just switched my intake back to stock, went to my friends house in the morning where he showed me this trick with ATF where you run it through one of your vacuum lines in your intake manifold. my car did run a lot smoother afterwards. went back to that place where they told me to change my intake, and was well below the maximum allowed to pass. i have an AEM CAI, DC sports header, 5zigen fireball exhaust, msd ignition, cam gears, pullies and an adjustable FPR.
