Default Project: Ghetto Hatch

I picked up an EH2 from a friend about 2 months ago and I have finally started working on it. It looks like complete and utter dog **** bu its my baby. I've already had to replace the core support (let's hear it for rednecks and lifted trucks with drop hitches), the bumber (raccoon) and the front driver fender (blowout). I still need to pick up a door for my driverside. They body is pretty rough and the primer is wwaay to thick from the previous owner going nuts with spraycans.

Side shot of the driverside.

Welding the casters on the Engine hoist. The bolts didn't fit flush so the leg's couldn't lock.

The front sits straight now!

The engine is finally out...see it in the corner of the pic?

Nasty bit of rust where the battery tray was.

D15B FTW, boost coming soon.

The beginnings of my Rustoleum paint job. One coat with no wetsanding.

The supplies (paint, sandpaper, etc)

I'm going to try and update every few days. Work/School seem to get it the way of too much getting done. Comments are welcome.

I just threw on a second coat of paint of the fender. So far I am really surprised with it. I'm hoping it is dry enough by tommorow night so I can do my first wetsand.

I picked up replacement spindles for the front off of an LX today so hopefully they will go on this week along with the front lcas and swaybar off of an EX. The axles are siezed into the ones on the car now that's why they are still there. It was a pita trying to pull the motor with them still there. (ball joint stuck in the lca on the passenger side and I didn't have a pickle fork at the time.)

I took a handful of pics today and started tearing the motor down a bit. My harness needs to be freshened up, alternator wire is expletived up big time.

Side shot minus the fender I am experimenting on.

From the front, the bay is empty.

Harness is off. Log mani/wastegate on to check fit.

Mounts are shot. I thought about filling them but I think a set of Poly inserts or some such are in order.

The roll pin that holds the shift linkage on is siezed/f'ed. Not sure how that is gonna get fixed at the moment...argh.

I have been playing around a bit with my paint mixture and it seems that the thinner I go the smoother it comes out, but it is a bit harder to keep it from running.

I finished the front driver fender and my front bumper.

They don't look as bad as what I was thinking they would. My friends thought I was crazy for using the roller but once they saw the results their attitude changed.

I'm pretty much painting the car piece by piece b/c I don't have a whole lot of time to do much of anything right now.

$50 paint job is no joke

i would strip the whole car down, and paint EVERYTHING, you will be more satisfied with the car if you do that rather than leaving jambs, engine bay and interior a different color. lots of work, but it makes the car look way nicer.

I plan on doing it all (jambs, hinges, bay, interior) I just don't have a place to store the parts other than on the car so when I paint one I have to put it back on. It is going to be a pain pulling everything back off when I do paint the bay, jambs, etc but I really have no other option at this point. I'm having fun with it so I'm happy. This car is meant to be my stress reliever. So far so good.

Still working on it. I picked up some spray cans today to try an area. I've been busy trying to get all of my turbo parts here as well as balancing midterms. I should have an update this weekend. I plan on trying to fix the door and smooth the body before I paint the main part of the chassis.

Oh yea. Flat black engine bay or the same rustoleum gloss white as the exterior? Yay/Nay?
