Engine smoking......HELP!!!
Hey, I have a little problem. Last week my car was over heating but it needed antifreeze/water. After i put some in the car hasn't over heated. But after i drive the car for a while, i see a little smoke coming from the reservoir and after when i open the cap (after it cools down). The fan doesn't come on.
Does anyone know what it could be???
Thanks

*not sure*
i think that if there is "little" smoke coming from it is because you added to much water? i dont think anything is wrong with it. just put more anti-freeze in there. look at your temp guage on the cluster if everything is fine then let it be. Or to be safe take it to a shop you trust and let them check your engine.
My car had a broken radiator (97 honda accord se) and i drove that thing for like a week, everytime i see the temp go higher then 3/4 i pull over turn on the E-light and shut of my car (fan spin) just go to the reservoir add "water" to it and drove home, did it for one week. after that i replace the radiator and add water/anti-freeze to it.
what i do is:
winter : 2/3 cup of water, rest is anti-freeze
summer: one cup of anti-freeze. rest is water.
edit: why would he need to replace a hubcaps?

Lol yeah, don't know why da hell that has to do something with my transmission anyways lol. The car drives fine, the temp stays at its place, the fan doesnt come on. I actually didnt see any smoke the times i drove it today.
Hmm.... maybe the radiator has a small hole that when water comes into contact with the engine it crates vapors [smoke]
But since u said the smoke is coming form the res.... that could be another problem....

Just remember, with whatever mix you use, you should use distilled water instead of tap water. That will prevent your radiator from rusting out, and your coolant lines from accumulating buildup.

i have read the manual so watch it for calling me retard because that just prove to me your ignorant.

OK OK, let's settle this argument. For all of those who didn't know, especially you, nViDia ForCeZ you should mix your antifreeze 50/50. Luckily, you probably live in an area where extreme temperatures are not commonplace. But according to a major antifreeze manufacturer:
A. Why is it important to mix antifreeze with water?
Antifreeze contains chemicals that protect your engine against rust and corrosion, as well as freeze-up and boil over protection. Water is required to activate the chemicals in the inhibitor package. Furthermore, adding water to antifreeze actually increases the freeze-up and boil over protection provided. For example, a mix of 40% antifreeze and 60% water provides freeze-up protection down to -10°F and boil over protection up to 259°F. In comparison, a mix of 70% antifreeze and 30% water provides freeze-up protection down to -62°F and boil over protection up to 270°F. However, we do not recommend adding more than 70% antifreeze. This would limit the corrosion and freeze up protection and heat transfer capabilities of the antifreeze.
So bottom line, mix your antifreeze, protect your engine.

am stupid but smarter then you. i didnt tell anyone to do anything. i just tell them what i do to my OWN car and what my UNCLE does. get your information stright buddy
why? because water freeze when it is cold that why i use less water in the winter and a lot of water in the summer time. think about it =] so your going to do what ever the manual has to say?
like oil, oil dont need to be replace every 3k you can use engine oil for like up to 4k or more if you want too and am tlking abou daily drive not abused type of car.

dude your stupid too.. i live in ''michigan" if you can read my info.
and for the dumb fact you just pull up where i live is cold if you didnt notice and that is why i use less water in the winter. why the hell would you use anti freeze when you can use water in the summer? to waste money on antifreeze? my engine aint going higher then 250°F unless i abused it which i dont. your fact is pointless to me.

why waste the money to buy anti freeze every winter when you could properally mix it and not have to worry about it for 5 years.
so, again, your retarded, but like you said its your car to ruin. your uncle is probably not doing that, and if he is, then your both retarded for wasting the money. and your only 17, and gone thru two cars. hmm.

and who said anything about oil you dumb dumb human being. not every oil is rated for more than 3k, and yes i would folllow the manual seeing its not going to do anything but prolong the life of my car and keep it in top running shape. Unlike you, who knows nothing.

hell yea i crash my accord so what? little speeding, messing around your point is?
it not because the radiator broke or anything wrong with the car. had it for almost 1 1/2 year.
i use a lot of anti freeze in the winter is because it cold here. if not i would of use 50/50 in the winter time. so again your ignorant.
age dont mean anything. if you like doing what is your dream it easy.

aww isn't that a shame
anyone would know 70/30 is the antifreeze to water mix. your plain retarded about this one. you can't win. 70/30 is rated for like -60 to 279 degrees. so go ahead and try to tell me im wrong about that too.

dont get your happiness up =P hey ahha i never said your wrong did i? i just gave you information and to everyone about what i mix. read this whole page is there anywhere i said 'you cant mix that retard' if there is then ill promise you ill let you win. plain and simple

every damn post, I look at you all fight like wife and hubby. and yes it is best to mix your anti freeze, heel they make more money if you had to do it stright, so it actualy hurts them, to mix it. I will say even my automotive techer in my trade school says that he always uses pure. now it kinda makes sence, you don't know how much water is already in the block, of a customers car, but if you do a 70/30 mix you shouldn't have any prob.
once agian back to the topic check your pressure cap, on your radiator. it might have a crack in the gaskets, whichcould be letting the coolant back threw the resivor. if so that will cause insificiant cooling, and cause a loss of coolant.
p.s. could the monitors do something about the second post, which is way off baise?
