Default ls vtec oil problems

i had some parts laying around the shop, so i built a ls vtec. i just got it in the car it has low oil pressure.when building I check all my clearances i went threw the whole engine all new parts so know every thing is ok there. i used a oil pump off a b16 block i had that worked fine when i took it off. I just started the engine, let it warm up then the oil pressure stated jumping around. any ideas of what it could be.should i get a new oil pump or is it some thing else

when i first started it up it had 25 psi at 1000 rpms which seems very low to me.
Then i reved it to about 3000rpm then the pressure went up to about 70 psi. then slowly started to zero when at idle again, so i shut it off .

did you use or make a new gasket for between the oil pick-up and oil pump?
It might be sucking air through there if theres a gap..or pick-up screen glogged.

I just put on a different oil pump, at first oil pressure was around 50 psi. IT started dropping as the engine warmed up. went down to around 5psi so shut it off. when I rev the engine it goes up to 70 . It has 25psi at 3000 rpms. I know that to much bearing clearance can cause this. Is there anything else that can cause this such as oil passage blockage. Also when i pluged the head (for the LSVTEC conversion)i noticed the plug went in farther than normal could this be the problem. The engine runs so smooth even when it get down to 5psi.

Id recomend try thicker oil and see what your gauge reads..

well then its something inside your motor,
unless you try a different gauge ...at this point you dont lose anything if you throw
another gauge on there ,let us know what happens.

well only and last thing i can think of is maybe you forgot
to put in the little round thing that goes in the block, where the headgasket
seats at..(i dont know what its called)its in the middle of the block between 2/3 cyl.

......................anybody have an exploted view of this??........................

i believe that is where oil travels on its way to the cylinder head ..

hope i made sense..

i have talked to some guys that said i need to prime my oil pump do you think this could be my problem. It looks like if i had 50psi oil pressure on cold engine, i would not need to prime my oil pump. Would a unprimed oil pump cause oil pressure drops
