How do you store a crank?
Whenever I store a crank I always lube up the main/rod journals with oil to keep them from drying up. Also, if you have access to and are **** about it you can store the crank on a 'crank holder'. It basically simulates the position the crank sits inside the block to prevent the counter-weights from warping the crank slightly.
Not always the case but

lube the bitch up, you can wrap it up if you're not going to use it for awhile.
If I know I'm going to be using it soon, i'll just coat it in wd-40 and stand it up under my shelves.
I have one sitting in a crank holder right now too. No reason really, just had it there and never took it out.

If you lay one down, youll see how it sits on the counterweights and supports it.
