My coolant smells like "fish"....
95 accord lx.
So I was just checking out my coolant this morning. It was full and it looked dark greenish like (I dont know if thats normal). As I put my face close to the coolant, a strong smell of fish like odor just came out. I was wondering if this is normal? Or do I need to put in a new tank of coolant?

You probably just have a system filled with old *** coolant. As long it doesn't have a nice brown hue you should be fine. If it does have a brown hue, it means you have oil leaking in, which can be very bad.
Best bet would be to do a coolant flush which is pretty easy. Look online but all you need to really do is drain it, and refill it up with anti-freeze at the proper mixture.

Hmm I might just dump this coolant out and refill it with a fresh one. I always thought coolant would always have that fresh air scent smell. Not sure what the heck my mechanic put in there since he fixed the coolant leak. Btw, what does your coolant smell like? Care to post it later?
I don't usually smell it but I know it tastes sweet, luckily not from experience. If he fixed the coolant leak he may not have flushed it, just fixed it and added what was needed. If it was actually changed recently, that might be bad...
Maybe he's just such a comedian that he chucked a few chunks of fish in there for good luck..
Essensially though, just flush it/change it then see how it looks after a week.

The anti-freeze part (ethene glycol) is about the same for all antifreeze brands. It's the anti-corrosion package that's different. And they don't always play nice with each other. DexCool stuff seems especially prone to getting bad when mixed with other types.
So it's not a good idea to ADD antifreeze if you don't know (for sure) exactly what brand is in there. Best to drain & rinse with clear water a few times so all the old stuff is gone.
