bought my first integra =)
i have always wanted to build a car to call my own so i Purchase a 99 gsr with 40,000 miles and a title today for a 1000 cash. its missing one tire, windshield, a key, has two fist size dents, and several dings. along with that the engine that was in has a large hole in it from nitrous. he threw in an extra block and informed me it needed pistons, rings, and bearings and a good amount of work. i dont know much about rebuilding an engine and would like some tips on good quality parts at a good price. i havent decided if i should or will need to bore the block out yet. im currently in college so im only interested in a quick reliable car for now. any help with parts or decision to bore it over or stay stock will be appreciated. thanks.
uh oh... not a good project to start while in college. considering you just want to make it reliable, looks like the guy before you did a great job in screwing that up for you
to help you out a little... skunk2 (although there are many haters) make pretty good quality parts. but, you can never go wrong with oem parts

i could pay someone to do it but then i wouldnt learn a thing and would have to fork over some cash. i have free acess to a lift, tools and help from a mechanic who i repay by cleaning his shop. my goal is to get it running and then sell my current car to get the money i put into it back and hopefully a little extra left over.
i will post my progress and try to put some pictures up
thanks for any help and tips

i think if you want to learn by yourself then good luck . no, buy the service manual and that **** will be your holy grail of the car. no manual=fuked up thing you bought for 1k . Also get some buddies to help you along. build the motor yourself with help then before putting it in the car send that motor to a mechanic is double check everything , then maybe have them do all the timing and stuff like that. My 2cents
if the body and interior are all there then that sounds like a hell of a deal. if you don't want to mess with rebuilding that engine, you could just get another gsr engine for around $1000-1500.

why waste the time and money on converting to lsvtec? why not just turbo? save the headache.

car doesn't sound too bad for the money you spent on it. I would probably just throw an LS block in it from hmotorsonline or something if you were trying to conserve money and just get it running. good luck on the project
