Yes Ive been really bored, Ive had an ef custer laying around so I decided to do another one. Heres the ek/dc one I did.

This writeup is only for those swapping there broken, or upgrading clusters. Noone wants the wrong milege on there cars so heres how to rollback or forward the odometer to the original km's.
In this DIY Im using a 91 Dx Auto cluster.

PS. If u try this and expletive up your cluster, thats your own fault. Do this at your own risk.

1. Remove the cluster(i dont have an ef anymore so I dont have any pics, should be easy though)

2. Gently pressing the black clips (2 on top and 2 on bottom) Remove the Plastic Cover.



3. Remove the 3 screws on the back of the cluster, and remove the complete odometer.



4. Now this is the tricky part, U have to remove the small copper C clip, Ive tried this a couple times and using a small flathead works best for me. U might have to use a bit off force, depedning on the way u go about it.



5. Once u have the clip off, to roll the numbers U just move them to the right and u can roll them back or forward, Take your time and align them. Once your happy, push back in place. Grab a pair of pliers and press the clip back in place. Install the rest in reverse Order.

I dont see why this would get locked, If you look at the alarm section people can easily use that information Illegally, yet it still exists. I think its only a federal offense if u report the car will fradulent milege, this writeup is for people that swap there clustera and want to maintain there current milege.

this is the same for EF clusters too?

 

that is an ef cluster, so i'll guess yes.

 

Nice pics. Couldn't have done it better myself. I've performed this method a few times for cluster swaps.

This is what I found out about the lagality of this(Next door neigboor is a lawyer)

So this DIY is fine.

 

Nice. I have been considering doing this anyhow, as my current speedometer doesn't like cold weather, but if I swapped it I was wanting it to reflect the actual mileage.

Exactly. It's a pain to file an odometer change with new mileage to the DMV, maybe the actual papers are not but finding the time to go there when they are actually open etc is. Plus, It would get confusing driving a car with a cluster showing 135K on a car with 267K or some other number. You'd have to keep up with the difference etc. Too much work.

 

In my state usually when a car is this old you don't even have to put the mileage on the title and I think it even says something about it not having to be the cars actual mileage. So I think this writeup is fine.

 

&lt;Already saved the pictures in case of legal action, and when my new motor goes in the mileage is so going back to 000000.

you could also take an electric drill and atach the chuck to your speedo cable.... that takes a little time but it works too

While appreciative of the time and effort that went into the reporting of this procedure, it is illegal in most states to alter odometer readings and/or keep track of mileage in any venue other than that provided by the state's DMV.

Locking out of necessity, but appreciative of the effort.

 

Good information even if it is illegal to do. Should definitely help the people with new motors/swaps.

 

this is a good write-up. i've had to report three different mileages because of cluster swaps and whatnot. went from 210K to 70K to 101K.

 

or you could just use some needle nose pliers wrapped with tape and roll em back that way

 

there was a couple that rolled back clusters and got caught and got some big jail time.

but if you plan on keeping ur ride i guess its kewl

Changing an engine is not a valid reason to change the odo. The odo represents vehicle mileage, and the engine is a relatively minor part. Rolling it back when putting in an engine could constitute fraud. This edu should only be used to correct vehicle mileage when replacing the existing odo with a new one.
