I'm looking at getting some Rota Wheels and Falken Azenis for HPDE and autocross action for my '96 Integra LS. I'm thinking either slipstreams or subzeros...which do you guys think? Also, I'm debating between the 15X7 or 16X7 size...also which do you think?? The weight difference is 1.5 lbs per wheel. Thanks for the help in advance.

 

I'd go with the Slipstreams in 15x7. Lighter is better!

 

agreed. no need for 16s unless you have a larger brake set-up that requires it.

I think you'd be best off with 15x7.5" slips. 16's wouldn't be necessary unless you have bigger than stock brakes. Since you're doing track events, 7.5" wheels would give you a bigger footprint than 7" wheels-

I've been doing track days on the original 15"x6.5" Slipstreams for years and they are just fine. I'd go with 15"x7"s if I were you though, since they are available now.

no way. the 205 azenis is a very wide 205 tire and i dont think the 215 is worth the added rotational mass from the 16" set-up.

They were a first time run in 15x7.5 and 15x8s. I have both, if anyone is interested. I posted a GB here way back in early 2006. The wheels are finally finished and now in stock. Unfortunately, many people cancelled, so I have some I need to sell!

I measured these vs my 15x7 Kosei K1s. The 15x8 Slips actually have more spoke clearance and just as much (and sometimes more) ID clearance than the K1s!! I was very surprised.

 

thanks for the info guys...I'll probably go with the 15x7 slipstreams w/ 205/50R15 Falken Azenis...would that be a good tire size to go with?? Now I just need to figure out what color on a black car!!

and i will tell you, you are wrong!!

acceleration out of a corner is more important....and going with a 15.7.5 or 15x8 is gonna give almost the same footprint on the concrete at a 16x7

 

im thinking of picking up a set of either 15x7.5 or 8 for this summer track events. i was wondering what tire size should i get for the 8? or 7.5? the reason why i ask is because cost/benefit of tires will the the deciding factor for which set ill get.

 

you can fit the 205/50/15 azenis on the 15x8. alot of autox guys run that setup.

or you could go with the 225/45/15 hankook Z212's

there really aren't any other tire options if you are running street tires in Autox/HPDE

 

Be sure to consider what class you'll be running if you're planning to autocross with these. If you're planning to run in stock class, the wheels need to be the same size as stock. If you're planning to run in STS, then 7.5" is the maximum allowed width.

i'm debating this with my intergra as well... i guess the main reason i'm afraid of running 15x7 wheels b/c the car might sit a bit too low and i might scrape my mad jdm front lip.

Falken dose not make a 205/45/16, they have a 215/45/16 or a 205/40/16. If you are worried about height check the tire MFG web sit and look at their specs especially the OD.

the spoke design should be taken into consideration as they can help in brake cooling if there is an absence of brake cooling ducts.

BUT... HPDE drivers seldom heat their brakes high enough to benefit from that.

so Go with the slips!

 

16x7 is becoming very popular for autocrossing because you can run the 205/40/16 Azenis. The advantage to this tire is that the diameter is almost an inch smaller than the 15" tire, however the width is slightly less. This would give a low powered car better acceleration, but closer gearing. Also, Azenis have fairly soft sidewalls, so having a lower profile tire will mean less body roll.
