Default Anybody else having problems with VSA?

Hi all, I'm a noob here at honda-tech.com. I've searched the forums but haven't found anything on VSA except for one thread regarding if its worth it or not. I have an 07 SI Sedan Fiji Blue. Its all stock nothing special yet. I've taken my ride up some twisties and that VSA is pretty sick.

Well back to my problem. When I turn off VSA, I am usually able to chirp second and third gear. But recently when I turn it off, it doesn't seem like it is disabled and I'm not able to even have a little chirp at all. Instead I get the VSA lagg which really sucks.

I've tried turning off and on my car then disabling VSA again and it still does the same thing. The problem seems to be intermitent and only happens sometimes, but it is getting pretty annoying; especially when I'm trying to race my friends turbo charged crx . If you guys have any other ideas to fix the problem or know the solution, please let me know and if there was already a thread on this please link me to it. Thanks.

Welcome to HT.

Solution = take it to the dealership. They'll diagnose it and make sure everything is operating as it should. We have warranties on these brand new cars so USE IT UP!

BTW, what do you mean by "VSA lag"?

What I mean by VSA lag is that it sorta has this little fuel cut and slows you down. Usually when its disabled and I shift from first to second gear my RPM would drop and grab right above 6k. But when VSA isn't disabled it drops to around 5,600 and doesn't chirp. It feels like it is hitting a wall.

Are you sure it's the VSA?

I have a 2006 SI which does not have VSA. The drive-by-wire and ECU adjusted for the way you drive. If you are driving the car "conservatively", and then decided to the slam on the gas and slam it through the gears, you might get a bit of a lag when shifting gears.

I may not be explaining this correctly, but this happens to me all the time. I usually drive very conservatively. Once in a while I will decide to hammer it. I get this lag between gears on the first couple shifts (2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th). This usually only happens once or twice, then it's all good, no more lag.

I asked my mechanic about it and he explained that the lag is the ECU adjusting the engine tuning for a change in the driving style.

Don't know if this is the same issue you have, but maybe.

Hi Hellzcivic,

Hey that does sound kind of right. I'll check that out because I'm not too sure. Usually when I have VSA on I can't chirp the tires at all but when I have it off I can do it like nothing. It's just recently that I had this problem but I'll think about what you said because I do drive it conservatively.

Hi Demonis,

I actually got my SI from Fresno, CA. I was lucky because it was the last one in stock. I don't know if the dealer was F'in with me but he said that I was the first to have a sedan fiji blue pearl haha and I haven't really seen one either.

This is so true, when i'm cruising around like a good old lady and decide to just step on it hard, the car feels like its holding back and RPMS are going high but i'm just not going anywhere. After a few times of hitting 6500-7500 RPMs the car adjusts and feels so smoooooth and ready to just haul ***.

It sounds like the problem is between the steering wheel and the seat.. hahaha sorry to bust your *****... I have the same issue.. one week ill hammer down on that girl and it feels all sporty... the next ill granny it and it gets laggish (if thats a word). it almost feels like the dbw system is slow (out of date er something maybe its a ibm 386pc ecu in that girl). dont quote me on that though

Sup icrashed,

LOL...the twisties is residential..although its very clear..with 1/10 bikers going up and down...

Its off of 101 and Embarcadero/Pagemill...dunno if I even spelled both those streets correctly. My VW friend goes there a lot with his passat..rofl..

This thread is hella old too..who decided to bring it up?..LOL....I also found that if you dump the clutch too fast...it causes the hesitation if anybody else decides to read up on this..good luck!

Your VSA is not disnegaging it sounds like. Its a traction control system basically. So when the tires lose grip the system cuts fuel from the engine thus giving a lag. This lag with feel similar to the DBW rev hang....but that is almost non existent on the 07 models.
