Valve adjustment?
If my valves are not adjusted right will it make my car miss?
I have a 91 civic hb with civc si motor (d series). The reason I am asking I was driving home earlier today and all the sudden I here this ticking so I pull over and check every thing. Everything looked fine to me but when I started my car back up to go home its missing on a cylinder.
It sounds like the valves to me but I want other insight before I go adjusting the valves because for all I know it could be a spun rod or something. the car has now power at all know.

Ticking is usually a sign that your valves need to be adjusted. Sometimes it's a fuel injector clicking noise. I'd suggest checking out your fuel/spark systems before assuming it's a spun rod, that sounds more like a rattling noise.
Thats what I thought too.
Because when you give the car gas the sound goes away. If you let off the gas the sound goes away too. But if you keep it at a certain rpm the sound it there.
I am going to get a feller gauge and adjust the valves.
Any other Ideas?

just adjusted my valves and I still have a knock so it looks like my bottom end is toast.
I am just going to get a d15b vtec from hmotorsonline.com

a spun rod would cause the engine not to turn over at all. if you pull the spark plug off the cylinder you think is causing the knock, do this at idle, the sound should go away because there is no force on the piston with no spark. That would pin point the bad rod bearing. improperly adjusted valves would cause the car to lack power at certain rpm's depending whether the valves are to tight or to loose.

Yeah im pretty sure its a rod knock.
I know the injectors are loud but is not them.
I took the valve cover off and did the valve adjustment I started the car to make sure that a valve wasnt broke or a broke rocker and all that is working perfectly.
If you stick your head by the block you can hear the knock pretty loud.
I get my income tax return in like 3 weeks so I am going to order a d15b vtec and all new suspension.

just try pulling the plug on the rod you think is bad, it will quiet down when it is not under load from combustion. then change engine, because we know you want to anyway. rationalizing for a new engine. nice.
Just talked to the wife and I am getting a d15b vtec!!!!
Finally a new motor after 3 years cant wait. I am going to take my old one out soon and tare it down to see what will happen.
I will let yall know.

With a spun bearing you can keep driving until the rod welds itself to the crank, and then makes a hasty exit out of your motor through one of the emergency egress points (Oil Pan / Cylinder Wall)
