Default 17" all season for DD

I need 215/40/17 for DD. The two I was looking at were Kumho ASX ($81 each) and Yokohama AVID H4S ($85 each). What kind of miles can I expect from either of them? Are there any other tires to consider in that price range?

Update: I got a price on some Riken Raptors $65 each which I'm almost positive I'll go with

You're comparing Kumho's best all-season with a tire that is not Yokohama's best all-season. Get the ASX.

You will probably get something like 35-55K miles from a set of the ASX. Of course, YMMV.

Those Riken tires are crap. If you care about your car, spend the few extra bucks for the ASX.

Really? The user ratings on tirerack.com showed the AVID's to be pretty good, and I liked the last set of Raptors I had in the days of yor . Also, what about the Kumho AST? My supplier has the AST in stock for $70 each, and the ASX are SO

*edit* nevermind. I saw the Kumho FAQ up top. I'll see about the ASX. Any other suggestions?

User survey responses are notoriously biased because the people responding only have tried their own tires. Responses are higher for tires which aren't that good but whose owners like them (because they've never tried anything else) than for tires commonly bought by performance types who try a lot of different tires, always looking for higher performance. There are lots of examples of one tire which is better than another tire in every possible way, yet the other tire gets higher ratings in the user surveys.

The AST is nowhere near as good as the ASX.

Among all-season tires, the very best ones out there are the Kumho ASX, Pirelli PZero Nero M+S, Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS, Avon (I forget the name), and Michelin Pilot A/S. Maybe one or two others. The ASX is significantly less expensive than all of these.

it depends on if you want a all season tire that is capable of handling or if you want an all season tire that is quiet and better handling in winter type of condition's.. those are the question's you need to ask yourself before buying a set of tires.. like me i want pure performance so i bought the falken 615.. on the wifes van i bought the yokohama avid trz because i wanted a soft ride and good all season traction for my wife.... on our third car i have michelin x-ice on it all year round ( stupid i know )but it hardly ever gets driven.. maybe 6000 miles a year if that.. so that is want you need to ask yourself want is it you want from your tires as in handling and all season traction.. every tire has it's give and takes about it
