Default Adding Another Audio/Video Component - ED/EF Related

I just picked up the optional console with extra din from ebay recently(like the one in the pic below)

I am already running an aftermarket headunit in my car and I was wondering if anyone here has run a seperate unit(equalizer, dvd player etc). I want to pick up the JVC AVX2 and run the audio out to the audio input on my headunit.

My only problem is I don't know where to draw power from. How did Honda manage to offer the Civics and CRX's back then with both a headunit and a seperate powered equalizer? Is there an optional 2 way wire harness that is available?

I figured I'd ask here since there are alot of other people with the same din console. Any info is appreciated

i got a question for you, can you switch the radio to where the climate control is? i got a cupholder on the bottom din and the cups always touch my brand new radio.

hey, a decent question!

what honda and most manufactures do when they offer option equipment is tap off of the radio harness, and run a pigtail down with the harness for the EQ (unless it was hardwired without a harness, ive never seen on out so i can't say)

you're most simple bet is to use the power and ground from the radio.

if your worried about drawing too much power then you can get the power from the fuse panel under the steering wheel. on the fuse panel, there are 3 male blade terminals, one is constant power, or is accessory power, and the last is parking lights.

as always run a fuse for anything you add as per the rating given in the install manual of your product.

it looks like you could easily fit a dvd player in there. what were you planning on using a screen?

happy wiring!

Well, I am sure you could but you would have to hack the hell out of your climate control and I dunno about you but I love my climate control.

Yeah, that's what i am afraid of. Burning up my wiring. I haven't seen that pigtail harness you are talkin about.

this is the unit I want to run. I don't want a huge screen with too much light. Just something to use when I am bored on lunch breaks, or when I wanna watch the local news. Of course not when I am driving but I spend alot of time in my car just chillin and it'd be nice to have some mild video entertainment.

Here is the unit I am talking about. 1 din, no flip out screen.

well it'd be a totally custom job and you'd have to relocate your climate control if you want to use that space for something else. The cables behind the climate control that are attached to the vents don't offer much slace so it would require some "hacking" to get the results you wanted. It would be tough since the climate control is such a delicate part and cracks easily(CRX) and replacement parts aren't cheap.

Ok, well I wanted to followup on my situation with the AV setup I was talking about.

I attempted to install it myself and I ended up....

1. Blowing several fuses(lesson learned...never forget to disc. battery)
2. Sliced my thumb wide open on radio din(lesson learned...if it won't budge, don't force it)
3. Payed an audio shop to do it.

So I admit. I was an idiot and tried to do it all myself without knowing jack **** about installs and it cost me $50 bux, alot of blood and a few blown fuses.

The install shop found a way to route power and memory to the unit and wire it to my usb headunit. The end result is great!(excuse the gouges and burns on the console piece. I got it from a junkyard)

Oh and for you ******* making fun on my Momo ebrake boot and saying it looked like wrinkled foreskin....I redid it and it looks way better now.

BEFORE

AFTER

Having the new console av setup now makes the car look alot nicer and now my break time is going to sweeter than ever.
