I know JG used to (or maybe still does) sell and use aluminum retainers. Ferrea makes an aluminum/magnesium retainer. And Bisi posted that his d16a6 street car from late 90s--high rpm d16a6 used aluminum retainers, he very well still might be using them. Talk to somone who actually has experience with them. Offhand, I probably wouldn't want to risk it in my personal motor, then again I have ZERO experience using them--I am just theorizing that they wouldn't last long at all. They would very light though--considering if they all used the same amount of material--if the steel weighed say 8 grams, the titanium would probably weigh around 4.5 and the alumnium around 2.7. Those aren't actual weights, just the ratio of the actual densities of the metals.

I use to sell JG those retainers. DPR use to buy them too. When I was working at Engle Cams I had a set made and showed them around. Same thing with valve springs. That was in '96. They worked just fine once they were hard annodized. Javier wanted them Red and Blue.
In fact I just gave a set away to a friend. Had them laying around and didnt need them.
