Default obd-0 to obd-1 quick question

ok so my buddy decided to go obd1 on his 88 dx hatch and he used the whole harness off of a 92 civic ex, dash wiring and all...all the way back to the tailights blah blah the whole ten yards... so the ignition comes one as does the fuel pump and everything, but the it wont crank, he has to give the starter direct current and it will start, is it because he used an automatic harness?? also his brake light doesnt work nor do his signals or hazards...any thoughts? thx in advance

The automatic harness is the issue, you have to cross a few wires to trick the ecu into believing its in park

Yes, because the plug near the automatic shifter won't be getting the correct reading it should be getting.
