How to make a 90/91 crx si lip fit 88-91 civic std
Ok well if you own a 88-91 honda civic std then you know how hard it is to find a front lip to fit the factory bumper. Well i have figured out a solution that ANYBODY with AVG skillz can do and it makes the car look 100% X 10 better.
*the lip on my car is a C/F one from passwordjdm but this mod will work with any crx lip of this style*
first off you need your 90-91 crx si bumper lip.. link to H-T sponsor selling the lips

1. The lip

2. Lip on Crx si bumper

3. Civic STD bumper (my car for refrence OLD PICS 89 civic)

Ok you will notice the biggest differences between the bumpers are quite easy to see, but mainly its the lack of fog light locations on the STD bumper, but other then this the bumpers are the same width, and general shape plus they both have the large center opening. Since the lip is flexible it will conform to the STD bumper with just a little massaging and 3m molding tape.
What your going to have to do is cut off the 2 side tabs (the ones on each side of the center tab) these are designed to fit into the factory foglight spots on the crx bumper but have no place to go on the STD bumper. I used a dremel with a side cutting bit to trim off the extra pieces and the used the sanding wheel to clean up the edges and make it smooth and even. After i cut the extra pieces off i test fit it and made sure that it would fit where i wanted to and to make sure no extra trimming was needed.
4.The tabs needing to be cut off are marked 1 and 2 on the following pic

5. Once trimmed off your lip will look like this

ok now time to mount it, my lip needed to be bolted on because 3m body tape just is not strong enuff to hold the c/f flush because its not as flexable as the poly lips. I held it up and pre drilled holes and then mounted it. Once mounted it may need to be trimmed on the sides because i noticed on mine that it was longer on the sides then my crx bumper was, so i broke out the dremel again and trimmed it up and made it flush with the wheel well.
6. mounted and secured

mounted with new fogs done same day in these pics you can see the screws and how i mounted it
7.

no i don't know how exactly the poly lips are designed to mount but no matter what some 3m body molding tape and some black machine screws will get the job done and not be "busy" looking.
I hope this helps and if anybody needs more info ask away i will do my best to help out.

your correct but for only certian models and the c/f lip was a carry over from my crx so it was FREE and i paid 189.00 shipped from passwordjdm because its a blem.
Screw's eh dont care the are temporary i have powder coated flush mount hex head bolts that need to be installed inplace of the screws but i am waiting for the weather to turn warm again.. or to get some garage time in my own garage (been doing alot of swaps and various other projects on freinds cars). Besides with the screws it was the only way to mount it and not have to worry about it falling off while driving it.

looks real good man. i've always wanted to know if anyone has done this b4 because i like the front lips that they have for the jdm bumpers but there isnt any for the std or dx. i was gonna go with the vw lip but i think i will stick with this one now that i know how it looks on a std. good **** man

HOw much is this lip set up??? I still have some 88/89 J's lips for sale, Theres no cuttin at all just gotta drill for the screws WAY easy, check out my rides at hyper16valve 89 hatch check out page 6&7...I'm sure i can beat or at least match the price peace...MOE@HYPER16VALVE...
Well, I would assume that the urethane would be much easier to shape and attach to the bumper.
I just want to see if the OEM mounting bolts and clips are all compatible. You know, the onese underneath the lip. If those all line up I don't see how this mod would be much of a problem to do.
Bump for a great write up

nice reply, but let me clear up somthing for you.
Every pic taken of my cars in this thread except for the last one were done by me with my canon powershot A85 camera point and shoot action, in my shop under direct lighting and before i ever did any type of waxing or buffing on the car.
The last pic was taken during a photoshoot for my local website AFTER i washed and had the paint claybar'd, stripped and waxed for the first time in about 8 months, the gentelam taking the pics tures was using a 2000.00 camera with external lighting and a tripod.
there may have been some photo shop on the surounding but NONE on the car, if this is the case don't you think he would have touched up the front bumper instead of leaving it blotchy?
here are some more pics just to prove my point
