ATTN: 4th Gen Owners with Koni Adjustables
I'm thinking about purchasing some Koni shocks (Neuspeed Koni's to be exact) and was just researching the details. Apparently, there's a collar you have to transfer from the stock front shocks to the Koni's. I'm not sure if I even have my stock shocks anywhere.
Here's the key: I'm not sure if this just pertains to 5th shocks or to 4th gen also.
Here's the collar I'm talking about: black collar on the bottoms of the front shocks:
Apparently, you're supposed to transfer that black collar from the stock shocks to the koni's to help align/center the shocks in the fork and it also helps prevent the shock body from sliding through the fork.
I was wondering if this is just a 5th gen thing or does this to apply to 4th gen shocks also.
So, if any 4th genner's have Koni's, did you guys have to transfer this collar over? Or do we even have these collars on our stock shocks. I haven't seen a stock shock in like 4+ years, so I don't quite remember if we even have this.
If we do need it, anyone want to sell me a couple?? haha

I don't remember switching them over....in fact, I'm 99% certain, that I'm not using those collars on the front shocks.

then you're marring the **** out of the shock body, and it is possibly slipping down. Are you sure that they weren't just stuck in the lower peice and you put it together without noticing?

Thanks, WhiteBB2 for confirming the answer.
That's not what I wanted to hear though haha. I'm not sure if I still have my stock shocks anymore. I'm on Neuspeed Race Springs and Tokico HP Shocks right now and have been for the 3 past years. The Tokico's are dead and was looking to replace them with the Neuspeed Koni's.
So, if I want to use those collars, I'm going to have to buy some used shocks.
Oh yeah, bb4ever, I don't think you can buy those black collars separately. At least, I couldn't find them. If you can find somewhere I can order them that'd be awesome. Or if you have some used ones or know of some that'd help too.

if you have been on Tokicos for the past 3 years and you dont have them on there...then maybe you dont need them after all...that actually kinda answers your question.

Well I dont' remember transfering it either. Do they need to be tapped or anything?
My Koni's didn't come with instructions.
I'll go look at the OEM shocks in my garage.

The OEM shocks on the 4th gen have those and they also hold the brake line.
My Koni's also had this otherwise there would not be a place to mount the brake line.

mine were welded to my konis, they are the newer versions that have the brake line holder welded onto the body.

same with mine... I have koni yellows in front and tokico whites in the rears with Skunk2 coilovers all around. The ride is pretty nice.
