Default turbo automatic

Hey guys, I've got a 96 4 door lx all stock non-vtec automatic. I was thinkin about throwing some boost to it just to make it a fun daily. Not tryin to go big boost, I was actually thinkin like a dsm 14b or 16g or something along those lines. Haven't been able to find anything out about how well the auto tranny's will hold up to boost. I figure I'll be alright w/ small boost, but I wanted to some expert honda-techer'r opinions first.

im no expert but ive seen automatic F22 trannys take some decent amounts of power

and as for Turbos on an auto I think its agood that way since the gears are wider for more boost duration, but you might take some time getting it back when you finally do shift

i had the same idea, and i found out a bit.

It is possible, but you'd be a huge fool to go more than 200 hp to the tranny. The trannys for the V6 and I4 are the same, so it can handle the power of the V6. Also, you'd need another huge tranny cooler, and a temp guage of some sort to make sure you don't overheat it.

uhh what else. I heard it was really hard to tune. I asked something like this awhile back.. let me find my thread.

Hard to tune. H22 swap for more torque, HP, reliability, and manual.

As much as I beat on my auto with 200,000 miles now, I'd say it must be pretty tough ( I've been beating on it for the last 27,000) There is a company that makes a rebuilt torque converter for the auto and I would definately look into that along with a cooler and fluid temp gauge. An automatic is very good for a turbo because you do not loose any boost while shifting, the throttle never closes, the engine is still pumping air and the turbo only slows down very slightly.

u believe that the i4 tranny= v6 then why dont u believe it can handle up to 260hp?
why would he fry it if he has, say, 240 .. its less than wut it could handle

What hasn't been said so far, and thus is not quite clear, is that the "200 hp" in question is actually 200 wheel horsepower, while the "260hp" is actually 260 flywheel horsepower.

There's a few that have/had boosted autos. Most had tranny failures. I couldn't tell you what kind of power levels they had though.

I hope you made a mistake when including torque in that equation.

I don't have the links. There's at least 2 guys in this forum that had boosted autos at one point. Turbowa was one... I can't think of the other guy's SN at the moment. I've seen a couple other people say they had boosted autos as well.

When I was getting my tranny rebuilt, the shop had a 01 Accord that they were replacing the auto tranny on. The car had a Drag turbo kit installed, AFC hack, and had supposedly ~220 whp. I was talking with the shop workers and they said that this was the 2nd time they were replacing his tranny.

On the other hand, there used to be this guy that I knew of in town that had a turbo'd auto Accord. He eventually converted to a 5-spd, but nothing was wrong with his auto at the time of the conversion.
