I have a 98 Civic EX with CAI and cat-back exhaust. I just bought a Hayame cam gear from a guy for 50 bucks and wanted to put it on my car, but then I heard that a cam gear won't do jack crap for me because Honda sets the timing right where it needs to be in order to make the most horsepower on the stock cams. Should I install it and just not advance/retard my timing yet? Someone please shed some light on this for me. Thanks.

i'd stick to the stock cam until you install a aftermarket cam. Why do the work twice...

 

WELL WITH THE VTEC THE CAM REALLY WOULD NOT BE WORTH IT, THINK ABOUT IT HAS VARIABLE VALVE TIMING

 

Save up for a good cam, and install the gear at the same time. I've heard good things about the Zex cam.
