Okay Lojack

Your cost of the LoJack is refunded. Not such an inviting thing but, the possibility of getting your car back and the discount in insurance, makes it worth it in itself.

About how much do you think the average insurance company will deduct?
So if its $800 for the unit, how much would the install cost. And do they have Lojack "centers" where they do the install for you for a price, or do we have to find an independant source to get it installed?

But if it helps reduces the changes of the ITR getting stolen and increases the chance of the it being recovered then i think it's worth it. Chuck

Do you use Lojack yourself?
No, I don't - but I've been following the discussion, especially since I had asked a while back about folks who had recovered their cars using it. Didn't get much response, but then I saw how that thief in San Jose got caught and the car recovered within two hours using Lojack. So I'm still curious about it, might consider it...

Insurance compnay deduct either 10% or 15% for LOJACK. I was told that each car has a designated spot to where the sensor should be placed, and i was also told that if you (the customer) tells them where to put it, then they will put it there. I also know of 2 people that have gotten their car stolen equipped with lojack but the cars were never found.
. But if they steal the car, and its not found, lojack will give you your money back, plus you get a 10% discount on insurance

Regarding installation, I wonder if you could have them install a dummy transponder in an obvious (but convincing) location, and bury the real transponder deep inside the chassis...
I think Lo jack is about $595 if j00 get the top of the line System with all the bells and whistles. This meaning their "Alarm" system with the transmitter AND
Intrusion Detection
Audible Warning
Passive or Active Arming
Remote Disarming
Panic Feature
Valet Mode
Vehicle Disabler
LED
Flashing Parking Lights
Dome Light Illumination
Remote Trunk Release
2 Hand-held Remotes
Integrated Keyless Door Locking/Unlocking
This is known as Stage IV (at least that was what it was before)
or, just get the transmitter. I think that is MUCH less than $500 or whatever. I thot this was called Stage I.
I'd get a different alarm system and add the Lojack transmitter. They work separately anyway I think.
If it sees the streets a lot, layer your security chitl
-Aoib0t, who did some research on this.
There is also the Powerlock for those in the SoCal Area (I dunno about other cities).

There are other tracking alternatives... I'm sure SIINSI can give us a lecture, but to put it simply:
1. There are several commerical tracking services that are designed to locate KIDS using a watch with transmitter. There is a monthly cost, but since it's such a small unit, you can pretty much install it anywhere in your car.
2. Also, you can use a stand-alone laptop with transmitter... but the cost becomes extremely high in this case.
Try http://www.google.com you'll find quite a few sources for tracking services.
