06 civic si sadness
i was driving down Colfax the other day in Colorado and just waiting at a red left turn arrow... when finally it turned green and i let the clutch out and eased into the gas when an old man in a Saturn vue ran the red light and hit me head on... the left front quarter panel went straight into the middle of my bumper... this pushed the radiator back into my linkage my block and broke me condenser also obviously my airbag deployed P.S. they work and ******* hurt... So me working at Honda had it towed to there body shop.... so of the techs came over and showed me some great sympathy for one of Honda's greatest cars.... the body guy just looked and said about 12 grand roughly...... the insurance estimator is coming Monday to give me a real estimate...... My question is what should i do should i throw away a dream car that's paid off and tell the insurance company to total it in worryness of frame damage??? And not have the accident on the VIN??? For resale value.... Does anyone know how much ill get for it???? the old guy has state-farm and so do i..... Will they take good care of me??? Any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated.....
If the insurance company decides to total the car they'll give you the value of the car at the time of the accident. Unless you have new car replacement.
Sorry bout your car man! Hope everything works out!

Value depends on various things like year and mileage. It's ultimately up to the insurance company whether they decide to total it and how much they give you for it.

Ok, let be real here. The MSRP for the SI is mid 20K. You have the car for a year now with almost 20K miles on it. It is pretty much said that the car is more than a year old because you purchase the car in the 06 and been driving since then. We are in 07 now, so it is fair to say that the car is actually a year old. With that said, 1 year car with 20K miles on it, let assume that you don't have navigation or other expensives equipment since you didn't mention any, then their is no way in the hell the insurance is going to give you 19K for your car. You driven the car like it is almost a 2 years old car, and I personally don't think you are going to get what you expected. On the other hand though, since it is an SI, you will get high money back for it. Don't mean to talk **** but dude, if we get what we almost paid for the car before taxes and everything, then most of the insurances company out there would have lost business a long that ago.

what is the price guide that estimates teh value based on "street" value rather than book value? since it is an SI, they should give u more than expected due to the fact that its not on every lot.
if u have GAP insurance, u get a brand new civic si or something of equal value. u WILL, most likely, not get what u wanted for it. i hate to tell u that. insurance companies dont make money from paying out what they are supposed to. they will give u a low offer, dont take it. go back to them with an extremely high number. then find the middle ground that both parties are satisfied with. only advice i have. $0.02

that would have me trading it in.

Man that sucks. The locals around here drive like ****. And Colfax is notorius for late light runners. I don't know how many times I've avoided accidents just because I'm used to crappy drivers since I'm from CA.
Glad to hear that they are repairing it. If you have GAP though, I would have tried to convince them that it was totaled since it pays for the difference between your loan and the current value of the car. Which means you start from ground zero again with no loan. Which, in turn, makes it easier to buy a new car again.
Any ways, do you happen to have a NHBP Si? If so, your car might have been the inspiration for me buying mine. I saw a NHBP sitting in a parking lot off of 58th in Arvada some time in July I think, and I did a double take. 2 months later, I've got my RR Si.

Sorry, didn't read the rest of the thread..if you get 10k worth of damages fixed on that car...it's gonna be worth nothing when you go to trade it in...I would try and trade when it's done, or sell it to get out of it....and get u a new one...Dealers just won't give u any money for it anymore since parts have been replaced...cause then they can't certify it anymore...just a thought, but you do what u feel is right sir...and good luck.

Lol! I just walked into a Honda dealership in town to get a replacement key for my g/f's Honda, when she and I were talking about your crashed Civic and how it didn't get totaled, when the parts guy piped up that he had your parts list right there. I didn't get to look at the current state of your car (since that would have been nosy as hell), but man I feel bad for you. I really hope they take care of you.
You should seriously get a lawyer and tell them your back hurts now also. that way you can offset some of the loss of resale with your settlement. And they should pay you for the diminished value of your resale.

Hold on, if there's frame damage that didn't get addressed or fixed, then you can re-appeal to his insurance company to take that into account. Get the dealership's documentation on the frame (which they should have taken to assess damage to it) and get a second and third opinion on it at other body shops.
Or hell, if anyone else knows a good way to go about this, let him know.
I may be wrong, but not addressing frame damage is not cool if it's true.
