Default 96 Accord not accelerating

I own a '96 Honda Accord (4 Door Model), V4. Recently it started to do this thing where as the gears change it would just rev up and not move. It would only allow me to go about 40mph and if I push down on the accelerator the RPM would go up but not the MPH.

I took it in to get serviced and they told me that I needed a timing belt serrvice and that I needed to change the tensioner. After these and a few other minor changes, my car is no better off and I think its worse.

Can any of you guys out there please help me so I wont get jerked around when I take it back to the shop.

wow, those ********* got you good. I can't believe they said to do that. If anything I'd think it would be a problem with your transmission. Can you maintain the 40mph when you can just rev the car? Can you feel your car shift all the way up to 4th gear?

No I cant, usually it only shifts up to about 3rd gear and then it do nothing from there. All it does as i accelerate is revs.

Well... hopefully it's not your tranmission going out the door. One thing you can do is maybe check your transmission fluid and ensure that it's a good color and there is enough of it. It should be a nice deep rose color. If it's brown and has chunks let me know. The flakes of metal indicate a bad transmission.

did they flush it or at least change the fluid? or did they just fill it?

Maybe check under your car also, and see if any tranny fluid is leaking. Anything that could indicate your transmissions shape will help.
