Hi,
I really hope someone out there might have a suggestion I can take a look at as I'm at my wits end with this bloody car.
'91 CRX Si. Other than i/h/e it's pretty much stock.
Problem: Car decides to become boggy/sluggish and then shuts itself off. No codes thrown. It isin't my car so I wasn't sure of the situation around the problem but when it happened I got it towed to me. When the car got to me I jumped in and it fired up right away. On my drive home with it it died 3x. What happens is it will shut itself off and refuse to fire up again. Turn the key and all it does is the runnninnnnininininin.. runnnnininininin etc. However if I were to wait 10 mins or so and attempt to start it up again it will usually fire up and off I go. Then it would die again...wait... start.. drive further. It also emitted a symptom of pushing your foot down on the gas pedal and the RPMs would do nothing.
First thoughts were possible bad coil or igniter. Instead of doing the usual tests with a test light on the distributor I just changed both peices. Got in the car and drove it for 3hrs doing random tests along the way. Tests include hot starts, cold starts, coasting in neutral, driving for a solid hour and turning it off, on, off, on, drive a bit, off... wait 30 mins and trying it again. Never had a single issue and it drove great. I figure that's it.. problem solved. I give the car back to the owner only to get a call at 2:30am..... it stalled out again and drove like crap prior to stalling. Luckily it restarted. Thoughts on this problem? Ignition switch? electrical portion of the ignition switch?
I'm at a loss. Within a week the owner will be doing a ZC swap but if it's something else other than the powerplant that's causing this problem it's going to continue after the swap and i'm going to be pissed and frustrated beyond beleif.

I was going to say main relay..
without codes being thrown i can think of the fuel filter being clogged,,the distributor maybe starting to show symtoms of failure..I'm not sure what else.

Going to try the fuel filter but if that's the problem I'm going to kick my own ***. Taking off the distributor there were no signs of what people call the red dust of death (sure sign the bearing is toast) so that's a positive side. I'd rather change a fuel filter than the ignition system that's for sure.
